finding out 2073N/2074 ip addresses after previous change

Post by ipwilson »

I have installed a 2074 and 2073N and working successfully from a Sky Router.

I wish to password and adjust settings of the 2073N wireless, however the standard 10.0.0.2 and 198.168.1.254 do not work as I feel the previous owner has adjusted the IP addresses for their network. When I do ipconfig all I get is the IP address of the Sky Router.

How do I determine the IP address and log into the billion homeplugs. I have reset them both and I have installed the billion software.

Thanks.

UPDATE - Download the wireless configuration utility lets you set new SSID and enter a WPA password...... 1 thing solved, but still want to enter the setup GUI of the homeplug.

You need to use the IP address 192.168.1.253 to access the Bipac 2073N, your computer also has to be within the same range eg 192.168.1.x to access 192.168.1.253

1. I fooking hate networking with a passion!!!!!
2. It appers to make shiit up as it goes along, works one min not another, settings working previousl not now, then back again.
3. Billion plugs far from 'plug and play'! and far from Home!
4. Rant over!

Hi, yes I remember something like that previously and thought the same thing then, given tthat the plugs are designed to connect to existing networks and one would assume it would show up the manuals should add that one must change ones ip settings to communicate with the the device. Hardly HOME friendly....

But moving on, yes this has worked but these BASTTARD Billion plugs decided that after a reboot of the Sky Router that they are attached too this morning, after the router went wibble with its connection to internet as routers often do, that they would no longer connect to teh sky internet connection. 12 hours later and I am no further than eventually speaking to the 2073N GUI, not getting to speak to the 2074 R2 but yet managing to get the BiPac utility to recognise the 2074 and show the additional powerline device (2073N) - which was device 2 upstairs in my room for testing and when down at the sky router now called device 4!? However when I connect to the 2073N using the Bipac utility it shows nothing. When connecting the sky cat5 to the 2074 no internet access on both the wired connection to the 2073N and the wireless connection to the 2073N.

Why is something that should be very simple so ruddy difficult...unnecessarily!

PS when the plugs talked and delivered internet on Sunday night I have not got a scooby how they did it..... but they did, which is often my networking experience, stuff happens randomly and never the same way a second time....

Are the PLC lights on, on either device??? (The PLC is the link light)

So you have the Bipac 2074 connected to the Sky router, and two 2073N's on upstairs.

I would work with one 2073N upstairs first, once you get it working then you can move on to the second one.

On the Bipac 2074, press and hold the reset button for 2 seconds, the power light should blink on/off to indicate a reset

On the 2073N you will need a paperclip/pin to perform this and press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds, the WLAN light should go out, then come on again to indicate a reset has been performed, once done you won't have security setup (as the device is reset back to default settings) then use the utility again to setup security.

Let me know how you get on, leave the second 2073N off for the time being (as the second setup will be more complicated, we will have to change the IP address of one of the 2073N's to avoid IP conflicts within the network)

Hi,
I had reset them both yesterday and I only have the one 2073N upstairs.

I tried to be clever yesterday by changing the IP address of the 2073N to one in the range of the router and selecting the second LAN to be the original IP address of the 2073N which still allows me to log into it using the 1.253

Both PLC lights are lit too.

For purposes of help i'll reset them again.

That fine, then connect a client to the 2073N and see what IP address you get, it should be a IP address from your router.

DAT file from the 2073N.... nothing on here is close to the sky IP addresses or the WAN settings on it.

Is this data historical from the last owner and not refreshed when a 'factory reset' is done? - I factory reset with latest firmware. Not sure if relay firmware worked though. I can communicate with the 2073N in GUI but the BiPac utility does not see the 2073N, yet it can be seen from the 2074 as a connected powerline device. In security onthe GUI for the 2073 it says password and NMK does not match but I can't change anything and reset made no difference.

Can the 2074 be accessed on GUI or does it perform a set role and more of a pass through to the home plugs that have to do the talking to your PC and the other network/router?
