7800n vs O2 IV router

Post by seang00 »

Hello all,

I recently moved my 7800n router closer to the master socket when i thought this is a good time to compare the 7800n with the o2 router. under the 7800n sync speed has increased by about 0.100 but download speed has reduced by about 2.mb.

O2 router = 16.5mb download/sync 18.600
7800n = 14.5 download/sync 18.700

pc is connected by ethernet, 1.6e firmware on 7800n
I'm on O2 legacy premium package.

Has anyone got any experience on O2 with the 7800n?

I don't have any experience or O2 but I've found that both a D-Link 2680 and a HG532 would sync higher than my 7800N.

I did get a little bit more out of it after I fitted a High Speed ADSL cable, which was probably better quality than the standard ones supplied with the TalkTalk routers.

Have you found any difference in stability between the O2 and 7800N. If your O2 was okay, why did you need to get the 7800N ?

What High Speed ADSL cable did you use to connect to the 7800n?

The one I have fitted is a 2 metre Cat6 FTP PVC Network cable which I got from Computer Products Online Ltd via e-bay, I also bought a 3m one as well in case I needed it.

Here are some to look at http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... Categories

This one is from ADSL Nation, don't know if it will be better quality or not http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catal ... cts_id=102

I read also somewhere that this is a better option than running a long ethernet cable as you can pretty much put the router wherever you want, in order to get better wireless to where you may be working and still be connected to the master socket.

Thanks for the reply Tomken.

I was using the adslnation pro+ cable which is a cat5 4 core 22m cable, this worked very well.

I've been running the O2 router now for 4 days and its starting to cause problems. Web pages need to be refreshed all the time :x , so now i've gone back to the billion. The reason i had the billion is that my original o2 router crapped out on me about 2 years back and i threw it away (not realising that its not mine lol). So i bought another one of ebay so i can return it in case i leave o2.

On the dsl vs ethernet cable i would recommend keeping your dsl line as short as possible for maximum benefit if you have medium to high attenuation. As you say though it depends on your needs.
