Accessing USB Flash Drive connected to 8900AX R2

Post by harry66 »

I am trying to access a USB drive connected to my 8900AX R2 v2.52.d3
It appears fine under USB->Storage info in the Admin interface.

But I cannot see it from Windows or from my Xiaomi Security Camera App (which can see other shares/devices on my network)

Under Windows, if I do windows RUN->the IP address of my router I get an error:
You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack.

Any ideas of how I can make this device visible on the Xiaomi app?

Thanks.

Hi @billion_fan / experts,

I am revisiting this - still am unable to access the USB drive attached to my 8900AX

I get the following error when I try to map to it from Windows:

\\192.168.2.1
You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack.

Does this mean, I have no chance of accessing this from Windows?

Will Billion issue a firmware upgrade to support this?

Thanks.

I've checked this with our engineers they have stated without Broadcom updating the OS to support SMB2 or higher we can only support windows 7 (win 10 or latest MAC oS won't work with the USB share)

If you want to enable SMBv1 on windows 10 try following the un-official guide below
