Difference between 7300N and 7700N

Post by tbaker »

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing a Billion ADSL Wireless Modem Router and I've been looking at either of these two products.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Billion-BiPAC-7 ... 201&sr=1-3
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Billion-BiPAC-7 ... f_cr_p_t_3

What I'm struggling to do is see the difference between the two products.

Any one able to help with this?

Hi

The 7300N has 1 more wireless antenna on the back (3 in total compaired to 2 on the 7700n), the 7300N also uses the trend chip chipset (ADSL chipset)

Both units have 4 ports 100mbps. One of the extra functions on the 7300N is that port 1 can be used as a WAN port for a cable modem or BT Infinity modem connection, on 7700n this cannot be done.

The 7700N uses the broadcom chipset (ADSL).

The 7300N has more functions, hence the higher price tag.

1) The 7300N is a wireless N router with 10/100 LAN, Trendchip chipset for ADSL & Ralink for wireless, supports 3000 NAT sessions.

2) The 7700N is a basic entry level router with wireless N, 10/100 LAN & Broadcom chipset for both ADSL & wireless, supports 2500 NAT sessions.

I know this thread is old but ... moved location for some time down to greece ... local dslam from local isp is broadcom (guessing must be great for my case with billion) ... i allready got due to your help (at an other thread in this forum) and a billion 7800 (thanks- but not tested yet here - justed moved at new location)
the current modem reporting
CO ITU Version[0] : 00004244
CO ITU Version[1] : 0000434d
DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR: < BDCM >

Reading the 7700n is a broadcom based as well i am after one as back up to the 7800 (i know is low specs but is going to be bridged with an other pure router)

Two questions please
How to tweak the 7700n?telnet>? if yes what the command?
With each reboot will need re-enter the SNR tweaked value?

Thanks for your time

Use the following command for SNR tweaks on the 7700n

xdslctl configure --snr 0xXX
There: 0xXX -- New SNR value, it is hex(e.g. 0x32 == 50).

Not sure if the SNR tweak is still set after a reboot, havent tested that yet.

OK guys the modem is here (fast shipping from broadbandbuyer) and forgive me if mentioned models but is for educational purposes
All i have to say about this small modem is W O W :D

Snr is set by default from isp at 9db & dslam is broadcom

Have an asus n55u and un-tweaked is locking about 9.500 kbps - trend/ralink
Tweaked (they added an snr tweak value via UI) 12.500 db but the snr staying at 9 db

A draytek locking at 10.500 but not tweaks possible - ADI

The 7700n will lock around 11.500
via telnet 0x32 or 50 about 13.000 ... can see the snr is set at 6db
& with 65550 value will lock around 14.000 kbps ... can see the snr locked at 3db but getting disconnections

How ever very pleased with this small modem and with 36 db attenuator the speed is more than expected even from kitz forum calculations
http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php

Note changing modems for testing and updating the 7700 firmware plus the snr tweaks the line seems gone slower so my guess after few days when settle again may give little more speed

My question is how to set high priority path 1 at dsl ... or if i set Link Power State high .... will make any difference for the disconnections with snr 3db?
Thanks

Hi again

spending some time for tests ... 6 db is the best for my line locking around 13.000 kbps (and over - depending time & reboot) and is been set there
i also tried snr 0 db and got over 15.000 kbps but disconnecting often

Rebooting the adsl part (or other settings via telnet) will not return the tweaked snr values to isp default but rebooting all part of the modem it will ...
With the following command will keep the tweaked snr settings with every reboot " adsl profile --save "

adsl info --vendor ... will show local dslam for information

Great little modem ... thanks billion ... bye :)

PS
Is any control via telnet for the phyR to turn on ... or is not supported ?
Updated to latest firmware form UK & working fine down here in Greece with PPPoE vpi/vci 8/35 llc ... Software Version: B038_N28_GH_UK-00-4300
Thanks

I would say amazon is not a good place to buy router or get information about 7300n and7700n router. You should visit callcentrall.com to get know the difference between 7300N and 7700N router.
