7700N and port 80

Post by Craigeh »

Hi,

A friend of mine has just purchased a 7700N based on my recommendation of Billion Routers. However, he is unable to forward port 80.

When he creates the rule, he gets the message about the built-in HTTP server now using port 8080 but this change never happens and the port never gets forwarded. Adding the Web Server IP to the DMZ allows external access, but requesting the domain internally still gives the router interface.

- Is it possible to forward port 80 on the 7700N?
- and does it support loopback?

Cheers,
Craig

Sorry Craig no answers from me just more frustration and problems.
I was hoping to find something on this after 2 months and countless emails to Billion.
I had bought a 7700N as I wanted a quality product after 3 Netgear routers of various ages each seemingly worse than the last.
I have a WHS (Windows Home Server) which uses UPnP to configure remote access and website etc. at the click of a button, all of this worked even with my ancient DG834G but steadfastly refuses to on the 7700N.
Ok manual configuration add web server and type in the servers fixed IP, click save and same message move to port 8080? Click yes. Then using my external ip in browser connected to neighbors network (with permission) I get the Billion router log in request?

I have a few problems with this.
At no point did I allow external (WAN) access to configure my router.
When after hours searching I disable remote access it is not disabled.
Why am I not looking at my Home Server web page.

I am reasonably technical (as a software engineer) and what I dont know I have tools to find out, but at the moment this router has me bruised and crying in the corner.

Has anyone used UPnP to configure this router?
What do I have to do to get ports forwarding correctly as UPnP fails?

I can put my Home Server in the DMZ but i do not want to nor should I have to, this is a consumer product aimed at the home market, promised features like UPnP and simple port forwarding should work, also remote configuration should be off by default and should actually switch off when you switch it off.

Just out of interest I have returned from holiday switched the router back on and now my home server website is visible. Switch it off for a week and it works? Still not responding to UPnP tho.

Hi,

I have this exact same issue and I'm surprised this doesn't effect more people.

I'm hoping to try the beta software today to see if this is resolved.

thanks

I've tried the new firmware on the forum and its still the same issue. I cannot believe something as fundamental as port forwarding doesn't work correctly.

Does anyone know if we can manually change the web management port via telnet or ssh?

Thanks

Did anyone on this thread manage to get port forwarding to work (on either firmware)?

Looks like the port forwarding doesnt work at all on this model.

Come on Billion..wheres the support? How do we get port forwarding to work?

Simple test to show it doesnt work.

Create a virtual server to forward SSH at port 22 to another server on you lan (or anything really..you will see why in a bit). A message will come up saying SSH for router has been moved to 2222. Connect to external ip at port 22....You are still connected to router at port 22. Port forward Not working!

Think I may make a ticket on the support system (I suggest anyone who is having this problem do to). If I get no joy then its time to use my consumer rights to get a working replacement or refund as its not suitable for what i purchased it for.

Yes I got the port forwarding working on the beta firmware found here

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=324

I upgraded and reset back to factory default settings, connected my device, started a HTTP server on port 80, forwarded the ports using the Virtual server section, the external port for the router changed to 8080, testedon a remote connection and everything worked.

The firmware I used was BiPAC 7700N_B038_N28_GH_UK-00-3646.afw

Still no luck here setting up simple port forwarding

My Steps
~~~~~~~~
1)Reset router to default settings (just to be sure)
2)Installed Beta firmware as you have stated (also tried original firmware) Firmware version using = BiPAC 7700N_B038_N28_GH_UK-00-3646.afw
3)Rest router to default settings after flash (as you have stated)
4)Setup adsl settings only.
5)Tested internet. Working ok.
6)Go into Advanced setup> Nat > Virtual servers and set up as follows.
Use Interface = Left as default as there is only one setting
Set a CUSTOM service =Test
Server IP = 192.168.0.3 (I can ping this IP on my lan, and also if I goto http://192.168.0.3:9876 I get asked to login to the service which i am running and want to port forward to. So all working ok)
External Port Start = 9876
External Port End = 9876
Protocol = TCP/UDP
Internal Port Start = 9876
Internal Port End = 9876
Click apply/save
7)Goto Device info> WAN
8)Copy WAN ip address e.g 176.251.243.169
9)Open up web browser and type http://176.251.243.169:9876
10)Get unable to connect to server error message in browser. Goto http://192.168.0.3:9876 and service is still working ok.
11)If i type in just http://176.251.243.169 into my browser I get asked to login to the routers web interface. Thus showing Ip address is correct but port forwarding not working.
12) There are no firewalls on the server running the service or the laptop i am trying to access the service from. The only firewall that is running is on the router itself. Ive turned this off and also tried allowing port 9876 but no difference.
If i grab my old Router a Netgear DG834N, it works no problem at all with the same setup. Ive also tried it with a friends router. Also no problem. Just not working on this 7700N.
If I go to http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ it says 9876 is open.
Im not trying to question you, but I do find it slightly strange that this problem is not just reported by me on this forum. Check these as well
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1695115
^Could only get round the problem by using a DMZ
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1902767
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1781160
There is also some poor reviews on Amazon.co.uk for this model. See review by "honestsam". He also states that port forwarding doesn't work.
Im starting to think that unless you purchase the 7800 then, we have no luck at support or updates for this model.
*RANT OVER*
Where do i go now?
Thanks in advance.
