Issue with Bridging mode

Post by menace »

I have just changed my set up from an ADSL service to a WiMax service with a company called County Broadband - very helpful in rural areas where telephone service is poor - I am now getting 24mb/s up and down which is great.

They supply a router which is in my loft and I have connected this by ethernet over power cable to my Billion router which is on my desk and which provides the network hub for NAS, PC and wireless connections.
I changed the settings on the router to Ethernet and Bridging and that works fine.
The issue seems to be that connected items are looking to the Billion router for the DNS server details, not finding anything there and so getting no internet connection.
When I connect peripherals by way of a static IP address all is fine as it then looks to the ISP's router for the DNS address which is what I need it to do.
The static solution is fine but a pain. Some items I have like Sonos radio seem to work for a while but then don't and I suspect have switched to looking to the wrong router for the DNS. You cannot give these a static IP. Guest cannot connect iPhones via WiFi using DHPC as again this looks to the wrong server for DNS.

I have been through the menu and tried options such as setting a default gateway or a static route but cannot get these to work.
I am no expert and what I have explained above is at (if not beyond) the limits of my understanding and discovered after a very frustrating weekend. If anyone can help I will be most grateful.

Thanks
As you have a router that has DHCP in front of the 7800DXL, you have two options.

1. Setup the device for Ethernet connection >> IP over Ethernet >> Obtain A IP address automatically, with DHCP on, and your main router connected to the EWAN port
2. Turn off the DHCP server on the 7800DXL and plug your main router to any of the LAN ports, with this setup everything will be handled by your main router (IP address, routing etc) once done, restart all devices connected to the 7800DXL so the 7800DXL will work like a wireless/hub switch

That makes sense.
I think I have DHCP running at two points - on the satellite dish and on the DXL so turning it off on the DXL will hopefully do the trick.

Thanks for your time.
