ADSL link down log entries in Bridge Mode

Post by slostuk »

I have setup my 8800 in Bridge Mode using the BT OpenReach ECI VDSL modem.

I notice the 8800 Log contains a lot of daemon crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL link down entries

Nov 8 08:47:06 daemon crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL link down
Nov 8 09:49:44 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.105
Nov 8 10:51:55 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.114
Nov 8 11:18:46 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.106
Nov 8 11:19:30 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.103
Nov 8 11:49:51 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.106
Nov 8 11:49:51 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.106
Nov 8 12:27:42 daemon crit kernel: Line 0: ADSL link down

Is this information that the 8800 has obtained from the ECI VDSL modem or just a logging error?

If you have setup the 8800NL in bridge then how is the BT OpenReach ECI VDSL modem connected?? In bridge mode the 8800NL works as a modem only, just like the BT OpenReach ECI VDSL modem.

Normally all you need is the 8800NL directly connected to the VDSL line and setup a PPPOE connection with VLAN tagged (BT/plusnet setup) or IP over Ethernet connection for talktalk home setup

Sorry for my incorrect use of terminology. The BT Openreach Modem is acting as the modem with the 8800 acting as a router only. I have created a PPPoE link between the 8800 and the BT Openreach Modem.

As the 8800NL is not using a DSL connection this will show, as the DSL connection is down, its nothing to worry about, you can try and remove the PPPOA interface from the 'WAN Service' page.

Under WAN Service I have only one connection PPPoE connection listed.

ETH Interface
Interface Description Type Vlan8021p VlanMuxId Igmp NAT Firewall IPv6 Mld Remove Edit
ppp0.1 pppoe_eth2 PPPoE N/A N/A Disabled Enabled Enabled Enabled Disabled

That fine then, don't worry about this message as the DSL is not in use.
