7800DXL - Ethernet ports not working

Post by nallar »

I've tried connecting two devices, a laptop and a desktop PC to the router with three different ethernet cables and on all ports, and in each case windows reports that the ethernet cable is unplugged.

In the Diagnostics page, the Ethernet port tests report "fail: Indicates that the Broadband Router does not detect the Ethernet interface on your computer." for all ports.

Anything else I can try? I'm worried about resetting the router to factory defaults as wireless works currently, and iirc it needs an initial ethernet connection to set up the wireless settings.

edit: Some additional information, ports 3 and 4 have faint orange status LEDs on, which would normally indicate a 10/100mbps connection. They're lit even when nothing is plugged in to the ethernet ports.

Sounds like a Ethernet failure, when did you purchase the product?

September 2013. If it does sound like a hardware failure I'll just get a new router with VDSL2 support though, not much point going through the hassle of warranty replacement when it will need replacing soon once I can get BT infinity.

Thanks
