Disconnects every few minutes - log and line stats

Post by mjbarnard »

Suddenly in the last few days I seem to be getting very frequent disconnects. I suspect it is the line? But I do not understand how to interpret the information.
Advice appreciated.

Ask Zen to investigate the line, as the line keep dropping out (the routers logs can't tell you why, all it can state is the connection was dropped)

I am with Zen and have a very similar issue, however, I am not certain my problem is with the connection, rather the 7800DXL. I have had the Router replaced and have the same problem but if I change to a Netgear DG834 the problem goes away. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Zen who have suggested that it may be Rein interference. BUT just recently my family have been away and I was left home alone and there were virtually no drop outs at all. this has led me to suspect that if there is too much traffic the the routher diconnects from the internet. I haven't had time to look into it further, maybe someone has a suggestion?

I have had the Router replaced and have the same problem but if I change to a Netgear DG834 the problem goes away. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with Zen who have suggested that it may be Rein interference. BUT just recently my family have been away and I was left home alone and there were virtually no drop outs at all. this has led me to suspect that if there is too much traffic the the routher diconnects from the internet. I haven't had time to look into it further, maybe someone has a suggestion?

:)
Never heard of the issue where if there is a lot of traffic the router will manually on purpose drop the internet connection, it could be that once there is heavy load on the DSL side, the line might drop, (maybe connecting too quick and then when stressed it becomes to unstable)

Maybe you can try and higher the SNR to see if that helps with the drop outs.

Thanks for that, the D/S SNR margin sits at around 9.1 on a normal day (see attached) do you think it could be worth raising it further?

Not sure if it will make a difference but you can try targeting a SNR of around 12db

I will try that thank you.

I updated to the latest firmware (2.32e) yesterday and I think it has improved a little but I will speak to Zen and get them to send me a graph which will confirm it. I will keep you updated.

You could try RouterStatsLite which will provide you with a graph, but with a Downstream Attenuation of 33.0, that should support a SNRM of 6dB quite comfortably.

I think checking your home set up or your line would prove beneficial.

When you have quite a few doing this, that and the other online, that can max out the bandwidth and cause disconnects, but if you are still getting them when on your own then that warrants further investigation.

Thanks for the suggestion Tomken

There have been many less drop outs since updating the firmware, but browsing has been exceptionally slow at times. I think I have narrowed it down to a Galaxy S4 Mini that uses the network. If we disable the wireless on it then browsing on all other devices returns to normal. I have been able to figure this out with the help of Zen and them sending me over the connection graphs and marrying those up with the times people are using the network.

What can I do to reduce it's available bandwidth?

Thanks
:)

I'm not into Androids (don't even have a mobile phone :) ) but QoS would be the answer and billion_fan will be able to help you with that if he picks up your thread again.
