8800nl errors (Plusnet)

Post by muttyhc »

Hi all,

I have had the 8800nl for about a month now, it was very stable on my talktalk line but I recently changed to Plusnet and it has been fine, but the quantity of errors seems to have dramatically increased.

This morning my internet had essentially stopped working and I had to reboot the 8800nl.

I decided to update the firmware to d39 since then,

Now it has been synced for the past 30 minutes since updating and it has the following error readout.

HEC Errors 114 0
OCD Errors 0 0
LCD Errors 0 0
Total Cells 134285110 0
Data Cells 1695407 0
Bit Errors 0 0
Total ES 58 2
Total SES 0 0
Total UAS 28 28

My downstream is 42578 upstream is 12504

This has dropped from 48mbps since the line went live.

I read through the entire 8800nl thread and noticed this chipset does produce more errors, so was considering going for the openreach modem in bridge mode with a router connected - do I have any reason to pursue this?

Further info:

Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 6.1 6.1
Attenuation (dB) 20.1 0.0
Output Power (dBm) 13.3 6.9
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 49906 12692

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

hello just looking at your post i have the 8800 axl i got a lot of dsl drops that were associated with using impulse noise reduction also referd to as PhyR this is enabled by default plus net does not support this function i now this because plus net told me and my adsl connection is now supper stable

Hi just come across this thread and was interested in the last post regards to Phyr impulse noise reduction I'm on bt infinity2 with billion 8800axl been using it for 2 months now to replace hh5a much more reliable but have been getting a lot of errors on downstream but hardly anything on upstream so checked my configuration/wan settings/DSL and noticed that
PhyR Is enabled for downstream but not up so I disabled it and noticed that the errors on downstream have more than halved, I'm not quite sure but is this setting something to do with g.inp I'm on a eci cabinet and as yet none have been g.inp enabled yet due to various compatibility problems ?

I have disabled PhysR after returning to my 8800NL - was not using it for some time.

I will monitor errors with PhysR off.

Is there a consensus on the best firmware for this??

Ask the ISP to investigate, as the we can see daemon err syslog: pppd:Couldn't get channel number: Transport endpoint is not connected which means no response from the isp/dslam, also ask them to do a full line check in case there are any other issues

Will give them a call in the morning to go through this.

Having more issues tonight.

We were streaming from amazon instant video this evening and basically the streaming came to a complete halt, and the hec errors were multiplying by the thousands every second. My log was displaying these messages...

Jul 23 21:14:30 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending OFFER of 192.168.1.100
Jul 23 21:14:30 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.100
Jul 23 21:14:38 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending OFFER of 192.168.1.101
Jul 23 21:14:38 daemon err syslog: dhcpd:sending ACK to 192.168.1.101

I have changed around cables and homeplugs and it has happened before already. Seems to happen around this time of day.

Any insight?

The logs are just DHCP logs, so I don't think that is related, if the issue occurs the same time every day, and you get lots of HEC errors, then it looks like a line issue

Thanks for the input,

Well I went back to dm2 firmware the night before last and my line was up for a good 26/27 hours and then last night resynced at a lower speed (dropped from 40mbps to 32mbps in the past week)

Errors were very low as well on the dm2 firmware, however after the resync in the middle of the night it is erroring more.

After 5-6 hours it is now looking like this,

HEC Errors 791 0
OCD Errors 0 0
LCD Errors 0 0
Total Cells 1451382136 0
Data Cells 48704264 0
Bit Errors 0 0
Total ES 130 50
Total SES 10 1
