Do I lose all 7800DXL Stats when I go to fibre?

Post by peterb99 »

I've just been 'fibre-enabled' (from adsl). So I have the OpenReach modem plugged into the faceplate and an ethernet cable connection to the 7800DXL. I ran the 'Quick Start' option and the connection was successfully made. Yep, it's definitely faster (I was getting 2.8mbps under adsl)!

All the 7800DXL stats are now zero (because it's the OpenReach modem that is synching, right?) so does this mean I can get no connection stats, other than the 'Connection Time' item on the Summary page?

From a quick Google it seems the OpenReach modem does not expose any line stats. It would be nice to be able to get similar information to what I was seeing under ADSL.

So the question is, is there a solution on getting line stats in my new setup? And I assume there is nothing in the 7800dxl settings that I should specifically be setting that the Quick Setup didn't address?

Thanks!

As the 7800DXL is not syncing with the phone line it won't be able to obtain the xdsl stats, I have heard there is way to unlock the open reach modem, so you can login to it, and have a look at the stats (I can't help with this, maybe someone else can advise)

OP here..

Maybe I should Ebay my 7800DXL and invest in something like http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/deta ... W9980.html or similar?

It looks like you connect this product directly to the phone cable. Is it VDSL2 products that would allow me to junk the OpenReach modem?

Thanks!

The Openreach modem is actually a router itself once its been unlocked. I used this with a 7800DXL and got the stats from the Openreach modem. Go here http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14262.0.html to get the unlocked firmware for the Openreach modem. Make sure it's a Broadcom chipset based modem and not a Lantiq one.
