ok so some more messing about an doing some deeper investigations it seems that my pc was reporting dhcpv6 L and O flag state changes that coincided with the various port up/down switching, which is strange because to start with I had stateless dhcpv6 setup on the router and then I didn't set it up after the factory reset on Friday afternoon, I have since disabled ipv6 on my main pc and haven't had the problem re-occur in the last few hours during light use, now i'll try playing some online game and see if it remains stable.

this would be a problem though since 8 of the devices on my network have ipv6 enabled by default with no way of shutting it down (windows & android mobile devices and xbox one) and it seems that the udhcp server is being activated by one of the devices asking for an address and then loading the neighbour cache then asking for a checkup and not getting the right response (hence the flag state changes)

surely if the router has the ability to run a stateless dhcpv6 server then it should always be sending the right responses to the flag state check packets unless there is a serious flaw in the firmware, I had the same problem with the version d firmware on this router but not on the 7800dx that had the problem on prior firmware although it was reporting the problem differently in the router log.

the radvd spam coincides with one of the mobile devices actively connecting/using the wifi and triggering the flag state change notification packets on the network, that in turn was telling various wired devices to change flag state triggering Ethernet port shutdown on devices like my pc /console /other mobile devices and restart with the new state.

please ask your engineers to look into this as regardless of the isp support for ipv6 the router's implementation is flawed given the log information.

as to how I found it, I was running internet searches for Ethernet problems and found a support forum post where someone advised that their event viewer notifications were full of service entries about flag state changes, then I looked into that some more to see what exactly that meant, and finally figured after testing /changing I should mention it on here since it seems to have fixed the main part of the problem that was preventing me from playing online games and accessing some websites

any idea on when they will have a fix out for this ?

given the announcement this month about BT finally going to support IPV6 it would be useful if the router did as well /

We should have newer firmware soon, maybe you can test it out and let us know if you still have the same issue

(I haven't got a update from admin yet on this case)
