I have just received my 8800NL, I bought this router due to the "Easy port forwarding" I had read about, as my TalkTalk Super Router was shockingly awful. I have CCTV IP system that currently have 2 cameras installed.
The first one is done and connected itself up and the 8800NL configured the ports fine. The second one is not automatically recognised so I am attempting to open a port, the ip address is listed in the window, bit when I attempt to open a port and then check to see if it is open, it always shows as closed.
I have tried a straight forward opening of a port through the virtual server, then I went to a port trigger, neither worked. I did seem to have some success when I managed to open a port, it then mysteriously reported as closed again when the other IP cam ports were configured.
I have attached a screen shot to show what I mean, I have now deleted all port triggers and old attempts to open the port, what you see is all there is now.
Please help as I am loosing the will to live, 2 routers and unable to open ports on both!!!

Re: Cant open Ports
Have you checked the gateway address on the second camera to make sure it points to the routers IP address??evilbane wrote:Another screen shot of the settings in the virtual server
The virtual server rules look fine, port 81 and 5000 have been forwarded, and the correct Interface is selected
Can you access the camera locally on port 81 or 5000 via the internal IP address eg http://192.168.1.106:81??

Re: Cant open Ports
I have now been able to open Port 81, but repeating the exact same procedure for port 82 does not open that port, it seems very hit and miss, sometimes it will and sometimes it wont......
Yes I can access the Cam through an internal IP, though when I try the external ip followed by the port it does not load.

Re: Cant open Ports
Try restarting the cam once you have changed the port (its also best to make sure the cam are on static IP's outside the DHCP range, to make port forwarding easier, and if there is a power cut and the devices are using DHCP, the IP will change)evilbane wrote:I have now been able to open Port 81, but repeating the exact same procedure for port 82 does not open that port, it seems very hit and miss, sometimes it will and sometimes it wont......

Also don't enter a WAN IP address in the virtual server rules

Re: Cant open Ports
I still cant open any ports that I want to, this is getting silly now, port 81 is open, which is a mystery as I have repeated the exact same steps for ports 85 and 82 and neither is open. I have also used one of the pre installed options "Balders Gate" just to see if those ports would be open, and this is also closed.
Surely it can't just be me who is having problems in opening ports for applications?

Re: Cant open Ports
No one else is having issues with opening ports, if this function was not working the forum would be flooded with complaints. (this is a standard feature when working behind nat)evilbane wrote:I still cant open any ports that I want to, this is getting silly now, port 81 is open, which is a mystery as I have repeated the exact same steps for ports 85 and 82 and neither is open. I have picked up your ticket and sent a reply, from the screen shots on your ticket port 81 is open via UPNP and redirected to port 80, so it seems two devices (I assume both web cams) are still running on port 80 as there is another rule opened via UPNP that has opened port 80

Re: Cant open Ports
Here is some screen shot examples of what I have done, as you can see port forwarding is working

Here are more tests with the same ports you tried

Silly question; doesn't VNC use UDP?
