8800axl Sky Fibre problems

Post by Bullstein »

Hi

I just got my 8800AXL today and set about replacing my Sky SR102 router

Now I have extracted my SKY username and password and it initially connected fine and everything worked as I hoped

then- the connection dropped and I was offline. Nothing I could do worked to re-establish a connection except restarting the router which worked but again only for 5-10 minutes or so before the same happened again

Now after a bit more reading I decided to configure the WAN service page as recommended in the 8800NL thread here:

Changed type to "IP over Internet"
Changed 802.1p priority to "0"
Changed 802.1QVlan ID to"101"
And again entered my option 61 Client ID as Sky username / password

As I'm typing this the connection so far has held so I'm instead of asking for further help I'm hoping this was the issue?

Can anyone confirm this for me please?

Edit

Since posting this unfortunately the problem is persisting

Basically the router won't hold the connection solidly and drops out every 5-10 minutes then reconnects

It's gonna play havoc with my Sky DLM do I've plugged in my Sky router for the meantime

Help please

Bump

Can anyone advise as to why the 8800axl keeps losing connection every few minutes?

When the issue occurs, does the DSL light start to flash on the front of the device.

Can you post a screen shot of your 'xDSL' page found under 'Status >> Statistics >> xDSL'

I'm off tomorrow, so I will get back to you on Monday.

I assume you are on firmware 2.32e,

Try using firmware ETEC8800AXL_2.32d.dm12.afw found on the attached link posted by me (the older firmware has a different DMT code)
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3522&start=80

Let me know the results :D

the dsl light never stays solid green, even when im connected for up to 10 minutes

then when the connection drops, it still flashes the same way so it doesn't change and i need to restart the router and it connects again - etc etc until the connection fails shortly after

re: earlier firmware (and yes I have the latest one 2.32e)

im not sure how i do this? im afraid i will need step by step instructions on how to go about this as im no techie

ok

im trying something else, Ive attached a BT openreach modem and connected the 8800axl via eternet, so far (5 minutes) the connection is solid and the ethernet light has been solid green. I have a thinkbroadband ping quality monitor running so i will be able to see how it behaves through the night (im off to bed)

fingers crossed, if using the BT modem is the only way I can hold a constant connection then its better that and the 8800axl than the sr102 with poor poor wifi

Hi again

Now even when I'm connected and able to access the Internet, the DSL light doesn't stay on solid - but flashes

Then after 10 minutes or so I lose connection but the lights don't change - ie the DSL light continues to flash and behave in the same way it did whilst I was connected

So the dsl light never lights solidly

Im afraid I don't know how to post a picture of the xdsl info you requested

But I can see the info now (I'm currently connected because I restarted the router)

Which parts are of interest?

Just to update

I'm now working it using the BT open reach modem and connecting to the 880 axl via Ethernet in the WAN port

It has not dropped connection once since I set that up 9 hours ago and wireless / Ping is better than the sr102

So all appears good this way, I'll have to give up on using it as a stand alone unit unfortunately

There's only one slight problem now in that I can't seem to access the router on 192.168.1.254 as it doesn't connect - wired or wirelessly - yet it was fine last night. I'll leave it running then try resetting it tonight after work
