8900AX-2400 5GHz Wireless not showing on devices

Post by jhawk123 »

Hi,
Bought the 8900AX-2400 yesterday, updated the firmware, factory reset, and have just been through the quick setup; wired and 2.4Ghz are working brilliantly, but the 5Ghz wireless ssid does not show on any device (the 5Ghz LED is on). I read the channel may be out of scope for the phones etc. (was on AUTO and showed 102) so forced to 36, but still no joy, haven't changed any other setting.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Further update...

I have changed all settings for 5GHz, 20, 40 and 80MHz, incremented through the channels, factory reset etc. still no sign of the 5GHz SSID. To be honest the 2.4GHz signal isn't that good and the range is just ok, dare i say it but the BT supplied hub 6 has better wifi.

Returning to Amazon for a refund.

I have quite a bit of fun with the 5Ghz band on the 8900 it is strange cosmetically I'm waiting for the LED to be updated so that it shows a degree of usage (like the 2.4Ghz band, and other routers) rather then a car indicator but on saying that it is only cosmetic.
The only other problems I have had is my apple iPhone 6+ but I have found a workaround on that.
If you haven’t touched any of the advance settings the 5Ghz band should work OK mine is set on 80Mhz bandwidth far better then a home Hub, you may just be unlucky and have a faulty unit.
I would get a replacement and try again it is a good router, very very stable with the latest firmware etec8900ax2400_2.52.d12.afw

Another thing to consider. I too was having intermittent issues with the 5Ghz band frequently not appearing for devices searching for a network. This was particularly frustrating for media devices where it might be more of a benefit. My router is situated in a box in my hallway along with a Vera Hoe Automation controller. It also has a 5Ghz network, so I've switched it (the Vera network) off (it's not currently required) and bingo things have become allot more stable and visible for connecting devices. I also moved the channel further down the range rather than leaving it on auto. Always worth a play...

I reported this issue a good few weeks ago and opened a ticket and still no reply or update?, if you looks at the stats they are broken for wl1 showing 100000's or bytes/errors, Although it does seem to be working. I believe billion will fix the issue and is probably the most stable router I have owned. Just wish there was more communication regarding this issue

Our engineers said it should be fixed, but it is not, so we will chase them again, I will keep you posted
