I have set up QOS on my BiPAC 8900AX2400 router but I don’t think it is working as I expected it to, in fact it may even be having the inverse effect.
We have limited bandwidth where we live (1.32Mb down 0.5Mb up) and kids who consume bandwidth like it’s a competition. I want to prioritise bandwidth to the sitting room telly, and a couple of other devices.
What I have done so far is, under ‘Configuration → LAN’ I have restricted the DHCP addresses to between 192.168.1.100 & 192.168.1.199, and I have created a ‘Static IP Lease List’ entry for each device that I want priority bandwidth for, starting at 192.168.1.200. Then under ‘Configuration → Quality Of Service’ I’ve created two rules which I have called “HighP_UL” for upload traffic, and “HighP_DL” for download traffic.
The settings are as follows;
Now when I watch the 'LAN Bandwidth Usage---Received' graph and start up Netflix in the sitting room, the kids bandwidth seems unaffected, and is much greater than the telly. I am starting to wonder whether I am getting this QOS totally wrong; maybe I should make up low priority rules for the 192.168.1.100 to .199 range rather than high priority rules for the .200 to .204. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to best prioritise bandwidth using QOS.
Thanks
Michael

Re: Quality Of Service Implementation
You need to setup a QOS rule to limit your kids connection, as there is no rule setup for them 192.168.1.100 ~ 192.168.1.199 they get unrestricted access.miclac wrote:I have set up QOS on my BiPAC 8900AX2400 router but I don’t think it is working as I expected it to, in fact it may even be having the inverse effect.

So delete your current rules, add new rules and limit the IP range to say 40% that should guarantee you have enough bandwidth for Netflix (as you have limited bandwidth anyway)
