8800NL R2 and Sky Fibre IPV6

Post by ihunter »

I have my 8800NL R2 connected to Sky Fibre and everything, well nearly everything, seems to be working OK. The only issue I have is that despite having a WAN IPv4 address for the life of me I can’t get a WAN IPv6 address. The IPv6 Gateway / IPv6 Address remains stubbornly empty and none of the devices I have connected receive an IPv6 address. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try following the three attached screen shots.

1. Enable the IPv6 for the your WAN connection (Configration >> WAN >> WAN Service, edit your current WAN profile and make sure IPv6 is enabled)
2. Enable IPv6 on LAN side
3. Make sure your IPv6 DNS is set to your wan interface

Having trawled the internet and this forum I'm pretty sure I had everything set up as you suggest but can't be 100% sure. I've since reconnected my Sky Q Hub and due to all the disconnects whilst I was messing about I'm now on a 9dB profile and down 14Mbps so I'm going to wait for things to return to normal before trying again.

In the meantime, my intention is to use the 8800NL R2 to provide the internet connection only and plug a Google Wifi in to provide the connection to all my devices. Assuming your suggestion works will it provide the Google Wifi with access to IPv6 both internally and externally or will it be restricted to IPv4?

Thanks.

It should work as long as you enable IPv6 on google wifi

Tried your settings and it didn't work until I put in Google's DNS servers (for whatever reason it didn't pick up Sky's IPv6 DNS servers automagically). My laptop connected directly to the router now gets an IPv6 address and everything seems to work. However, adding the Google Wifi into the mix kills IPv6. It doesn't get an IPv6 address and nothing connected to it does either. Can you think of anything else I should look at?

Thanks.

You might need to contact google for further support, advising them clients on the internal network are able to obtain a IPv6 address when connected to the router, but the google wifi is unable to, and clients connected to them are also unable to.
