router wireless connection

Post by grumpyoldman »

I have just purchased a BiPAC 8800AXL R2 router.

Connection to internet has been made but I cannot make a wireless connection with my laptop.

The router appears to show up as 'hidden network' rather than Billion 8800 or similar. In settings SSID's for both 2.4g and 5g are not noted as being hidden.

Wireless light is on. When trying to connect I have used WIFI SSID on back of router 'Billion-AP-2.4g/Billion-AP-5g' + WIFI key shown on back of router, but I get error message 'unable to connect to network'.

The 'hidden network' doesn't show on andriod phone or tablet'.

My laptop has W10 and I have checked settings as shown n manual.

Advice please.

Today, hidden network is not showing under available networks. It would seem that either router is not broadcasting a wifi signal or my laptop cannot 'see' it. However as my andriod phone can't 'see' the router either, perhaps there is no signal being broadcast?

Have you tried a reset back to factory default settings, then use a wired PC to manually reconfigure the device ??

Also make sure the 'Hide SSID' option in not enabled under 'Configuration >> Wireless 2.4g/Wireless 5g'
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried resetting router but with no success. all settings checked and SSID is not being hidden.

Have decided that there must be fault with the router in that no wifi siganl is being transmitted, so will ask for a replacement.

Problem solved. In easy set up the incorrect channel was being selected for 2.4 ghz (laptop doesn't at present support 5 ghz). All is well now correct channel is selected.

For anyone suffering from the same issue (2.4ghz channel showing as 36) follow the steps below

1. Reset the unit back to factory default settings
2. Login on http://192.168.1.254 username = admin, password =admin
3. Click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN Service'
4. For a ADSL connection edit the 'PPPoA' interface and type your broadband username and password in the sections provided and click on 'Apply'
5. For a Fibre/VDSL connection edit the 'PTM >>> PPPoE' interface, for BT,Plusnet etc enter your broadband username and password in the sections provided and click on 'Apply' for a talktalk fibre connection change the 'Type' to 'IPoE' and click on 'Apply', Sky will be the same with the 'Option 61 Client ID' needed
6. Click on 'Configuration >> Wireless 2.4g >> Basic, here you can change the SSID if needed then click on 'Apply'
7. Click on 'Security' below the 'Wireless 2.4g' and change the 'WPA/WAPI passphrase' to a wireless password of your choice min 8 characters and click on 'Apply'
8. Click on Wireless 5g >> Basic, here you can change the SSID if needed then click on 'Apply'
9 . Click on 'Security' below the 'Wireless 5g' and change the 'WPA/WAPI passphrase' to a wireless password of your choice min 8 characters and click on 'Apply'

That should be all setup and working :D
