8800 as a wireless bridge

Post by tekskelator »

Hi,

I've search high and low for an answer to this but can't find a solution. Here's what a want to do.

I want to have a wireless link between my main wireless gateway and a 8800 AXL. The 8800AXL will be the secondary router, which I will then use the ethernet ports on the back to connect some devices.

I've gone over the manual and this forum and even using posts that seem to be for the identical thing, I can not get it working.

My gateway runs in the 10.0.0.1-.37 range with its DHCP server set to 10.0.0.138.

I only want the wireless link to go over the 5ghz wifi.

I cant swap them around as I need the voip sockets on the main gateway.

Can anyone show me what I need to do?

My netgear 6300 was a breeze to set up. Put in bridgemode, reboot, put in SSID and hit the WPS button, done. The 8800 is a nightmare to configure by comparison.

Not sure if it will work as in WDS mode, as we can on recommend using the same models in WDS mode.

Here are the steps on how to setup two 8800AXL

I would advise setting up the devices in same room first, before deployment

1. Login to the primary Bipac 8800AXL 1 (assuming this will be the internet connection device)
2. Click on 'Configuration >> Wireless 5g' and note down the 'BSSID'
3. Login to the Bipac 8800AXL 2, and do the same click on 'Configuration >> Wireless 5g' and note down the 'BSSID'
4. Change the IP address of the Bipac 8800AXL 2 to 192.168.1.252 under Configuration >> LAN and click on 'Apply'
5. Login to Bipac 8800AXL 2 with the new IP address 192.168.1.252, and click on 'Configuration >> LAN and set the DHCP server to 'Disable' and click on 'Apply'
6. Now on the 8800AXL 2 make sure the SSID (wireless network name) security password and wireless channel match your Bipac 8800AXL 1 (you can check the channel under 'Configuration >> Wireless 5g >> Advanced')
7. Now on the 8800AXL 2 click on 'Configuration >> Wireless 5g >> Wireless Bridge'
8. Enter the BSSID of the Bipac 8800AXL 1 into the Bipac 8800AXL 2 the one you noted down in step 2 in the 'Remote Bridges MAC Address' and click on 'Apply'
9. Now login to the 8800AXL 1 and click on 'Configuration >> Wireless 5g >> Wireless Bridge' and enter the BSSID of the Bipac 8800AXL 2 into the Bipac 8800AXL the one you noted down in step 3 in the 'Remote Bridges MAC Address' and click on 'Apply'
10. That should be it

Ok. I dont have 2 Billion 8800s, nor I am going to buy a second one.

The instructions you've provided are the same as another post here, which I've already tried - unsuccessfully.

My current home network runs on a 10.x.x.x network, and I'm not changing it as that what the ISP device is configured to.

My 8800 can see the SSID of the 5ghz network when I do the scan, but I get no indication that its connected to it, nor does my laptop (which is connected to the 8800 get internet access)

Think i'll just buy another wifi extender and toss the 8800.

That's known compatibility issues when using WDS unfortunately
