Issues connecting to wireless printer

Post by mesaboogieman »

Hi
I have been trying in vain for many hours to connect my Epson XP312 wireless printer to my new 8800NL router. I have never had an issue connecting this printer before with a 7800n and more recently a TalkTalk HG633.

Connecting the printer by choosing the Network SSID and then entering the Password all goes well and the printer tells me it's connected to the 8800NL. I can also see the printer in the DCHP table on the router but the printer only show up on my two laptops (win7) as 'offline' most of the time. Occasionally it shows as 'online' and I can print ok but the next time I go to use it it's offline' again. It's offline 99% of the time.
I'm at my witts end so if anyone can suggest where i'm going wrong or has any personal experience of a similar problem I would welcome your input.

Have you tried to setup a 'Static IP Lease List' rule for the printer (adding the mac address of the printer and IP address outside the DHCP range eg 192.168.1.200) you will have to adjust you printer driver settings to point to the new address or re-install the driver so the driver points to the new IP address

Also add the printer to the 'Static ARP' table (found under 'Advanced Setup >> Static ARP)

Hi Billion_fan

Thanks for your suggestions/advise. Having read some of the other posts on the forum I decided to upgrade my firmware and reset to factory settings. I then input all my settings from scratch and so far all appears to be working ok including my wireless printer.
Hopefully it will stay that way ....

Lesson learnt, reset to factory defaults after firmware update and re-enter all settings from scratch seems the way to go ..

Hi
Update....

Spoke too soon ... issue has returned. Problem seems to be random/intermittent failure of laptops (wired) to connect to the printer.
Printer indicates it is wirelessly connected to router ok and you can see the printer in the routers DHCP status list but both of my laptops (Win 7) are reporting printer is 'offline' and it is greyed out.
It appears that when this issue is present I cannot 'ping' the printers IP address (unreachable), very strange.

I have now reconnected my TalkTalk HG633 router and all is ok again with the printer! I must assume then that the Billion 8800 is not compatible in some way with my Epson XP-312 wireless printer or has a 'bug'. Prior to going to Fibre I was using a 7800N for 2 years with the same printer/setup again with no issues.

Love the improved VDSL speed with the 8800NL but this printer issue is a pain and I will have to try another manufacturer I reckon.

p.s. I have spoken to Tech Support but they have no knowledge of an issue like mine and after confirming my setup was correct suggested I talk to Epson!

Hi,
Did you ever get this resolved with the Bipac?
Thanks!

Hi harry66

The simple answer is no, decided enough was enough and returned the 8800NL to the supplier. Have now installed a Netgear 6400 and do not have any issue connecting to my Epson wireless printer anymore.
Have also replied to your own topic regarding your Samsung wireless printer issue.

Hi all,
Wondering if the problem could be related to the Quick Start bug I've encountered.
Using Quick Start caused two (yes weird I know) WiFi signals to be broadcast. One had my chosen SSID and the other was blank. Both had the same BSSID (router mac).
A factory reset and manual configuration of PPPoE sorted out the problem.
So I'm wondering whether this is happening on your devices and if so, it could explain why the printers are dropping off / erratically connecting.
In my experience (of Canon) printers they are extremely fault intolerant.
Try a Factory Reset and avoid the Quick Start option. Use a WiFi app from the iStore or Play store to check whether the signal is sound.

Hi
Update:
I have now tried a 8800AXL with my Epson wireless printer and it is connecting perfectly. Why it didn't connect consistently to the 8800NL is a mystery.
Anyway, sticking with the 8800AXL as it performs better than the Netgear 6400 (which also worked ok with my printer) on my connection.
