Hi,
I currently have a 7800N and have come to the conclusion that it is now the main bottleneck in my network. I currently have 120MB / 12UP with virgin media but speed tests show that I'm hitting 45Mb if I'm lucky. Some research has indicated that the maximum throughput speed via the EWAN is approx 40-80Mb (though on average 60MB). I guess my question is around the throughput speed of the 7800DXL; is it capable of handling 120Mb downstream - a quick search on this forum category worryingly shows that the EWAN port on the DXL is still at Fast Ethernet despite the advertising blurb of it being 1Gbit.
Can anyone confirm please?

Re: EWAN Throughput Speed
Hi
Assuming a wired connection to rule out Wi-Fi issues, the 7800DXL is faster than the 7800N, with the 7800DXL supposedly supporting FTTC services that are around 80Meg down without being the weakest link, it is known that the 7800N is a bottle neck on such services.
If you are in the UK and buy online then you can try it in your own home under the distant selling act, which gives you 7 days to return it if it isn't suitable.
Regards
Phil

Re: EWAN Throughput Speed
I'm on BT Infinity 2 (80/20), and I'm getting the following:

The 7800N has 4x 1Gb ports with 1x 100Mb EWAN port, whereas the 7800DXL has 4x 1Gb network ports only (with port4 as you EWAN port)...

Many thanks everyone for the clarity. A bit pointless having the DXL then considering it has a max of 100Mb with real term bottle of 74Mb. I think Billion need to stop focusing on minor changes and heavy software reliance as part of their product portfolio and actually start investing in a new hardware die if they still want to be considered at the leading edge of consumer router technology.

I get the same throughput using an Asus RT-AC66U router with my BT Infinity. I have gone back to using the 7800DXL as the Port Forwarding and 3G failover actually works properly with the Billion.

The 7800DXL WAN port is 1000mbps not 100mbps.razorlitex wrote:Many thanks everyone for the clarity. The throuhput for the WAN is should be above 300mbps.

Should be or is?
Have you checked the other posts on this forum - seems to suggest otherwise.
