Hi,
My 7800DXL replaced an 8 year old Linksys WAG354G. The max possible speed of my line according to BT is ~2.5Mbps. The 7800DXL has been up for just over 4 days. I briefly flirted with tweaking the SNR but decided to establish a base-line first and see how it goes so I reset it back to the default.
The key stats I'm seeing currently are:
- Downstream SNR Margin = 5.7 (It started at 9.1 as measured on the 7800DXL. The last measurement on the Linksys was 7Db).
- Attainable downstream rate = 2724 / Rate=2656
- Downstream attenuation 49.5
Subjectively, web pages definitely come through much faster on the 7800DXL but speed testing sites like http://speedtest.uk.net/ report a consistent but slightly slower speed around 2.1 mbps whereas I was seeing around 2.6mbps on the Linksys.
I wonder whether the 7800DXL is steadier at the quoted speed whereas what http://speedtest.uk.net/ reports is the max that was achieved. Not sure.
I guess I should just be happy with the perceived speed improvement, which I definitely am!
7800DXL - perceived vs. measured performance?

Hi
It may indeed deliver pages a bit faster even though overall throughput is measuring a little less. This can be due to quicker DNS lookups and less latency overall because of the router processing things faster.

Phil
