7800N EWAN 2 Lines

Post by FurryGorilla »

Hi

We've had a second BT ADSL line installed yesterday and am looking at using the Billion 7800N with one line and then connecting via an ethernet cable from the EWAN port of this to the BT Home Hub which is connected to the second line. Ideally no devices will be connected to the BT home hub.

I presume I will have to set the IP address of the home hub to something other than 192.168.1.254 as this is the same as the Billion router but I wasn't quite sure what settings I need to change on the admin pages on the Billion.

On the WAN interface I've set the main port to DUAL WAN and then under EWAN on the WAN profile page I've set protocol to "obtain IP address automically".

I'm not sure if there's anything else I need to do but is there anything on the Billion admin pages that would tell me whether it's worked or not?

Many thanks

The dual WAN function you have setup is for failover/fallback mode, meaning if the ADSL is set as primary and this connection fails it will failover to the EWAN connection, once the ADSL PPP connection has reconnected the connection should fallback to the ADSL connection. Both connections cannot be used at the same time.

Thanks for the reply, that makes perfect sense. TP-LINK make a little dual router so I'll look at getting that. Cheers!
