new 7800dx setup problem

Post by nanotm »

hi,

I have a new 7800dx, running the firmware 2.32b but I am having trouble trying to set it up,

i'm trying to input the details required to just swap it for my current router (7800) so I have 1 pc connected over Ethernet cable and nothing else connected to the router.

each page takes at least a minute to load (major pain), i have tried to apply settings but half of the time things are not saving (because there is no indication anything is happening) so i navigate to a new page and try to do another setting only to find the router is stuck in a page not loaded state

how can i speed up the page load problem or does this indicate its a duff unit ?

Have you tried to use different PC/web browser?

Have you tried to use a different ethernet port? (it might help to pin point the issue)

hi,

sorry should of mentioned that I have tried to perform the setup on 2 different machines,

a w8 x64 laptop, and a w7hp x64 pc

the w8 laptop using ie didn't suffer from the massive time delays but it, easy sign on gets as far as asking for the time to be setup and then goes to a blank page (no navigation options), entering the router's ip address does get me round this problem and into the configuration pages but as soon as I try to change the lan settings for firewall I get page cannot be found error's, its not mine so I cant change the browser

w7 pc (using both chrome29.0.12547.76 m) and ie 10 I get extraordinarily long times between pages.

I have tried using Ethernet ports 1,2,3 and get the same results with the pc i have disabled the security programs on the pc (which didn't make any changes to connection speed) set the new network to be registered as a home network and performed a default reset via an elevated command prompt of the ipv4 interface all of which didn't change the page load speed

so far I have spent 2 hours trying to configure the router before making the original post, during that time i have had to use the factory reset button to regain connectivity several times, if i need to change a network setting on the pc in order to obtain connection then i don't know what settings i have forgotten to change.

one thing i did notice was that the router seemed rather warm to the touch despite having only been plugged in for a few minutes , although it didn't seem to get any hotter as it continued to be used while i was attempting to sort out its settings

Have you tried the wireless connection? the security wireless password is the MAC address of the unit, located under the device eg 0004edxxxxxx

no I haven't tried the wireless access, i'm trying to completely disable the wifi as part of the pre configuration because I don't want it although that will likely change in the future.

I was thinking as test to see if the speeds improve and if you are able to fully setup the device, when using a wireless connection. (so we know if the ethernet is only effected)

hi,

it seems the router needed some burn in time before it would work properly, I spent the last few hours attempting to get it set up and suddenly it just started responding at a normal time frame,

no idea why to be honest I went for a cuppa and when I came back I hit refresh and it just worked .....

now I just need to figure out how to setup some of the firewall stuff I want to use ....so much simpler on the old unit
