Line Rate - Downstream

Post by kennyc »

Hi,

I'm not sure this is co-incidence or not but I just upgraded the firmware to 2.32c and my downstream line rate is now stuck on 4000 kbps no matter what I do with the SNR setting (I used to get ~5800kbps). The upstream rate varies a little. The coincidence part is that I've also just requested a MAC code from my ISP to switch to Sky fibre. :?:

Cheers,
Kenny

Additional information is that my Attainable Rate is 6296kbps but as I said previously changing the SNR has no effect whatsoever. Anyone got any ideas why?

Thanks,
Kenny

You might need to check with your ISP if they have capped your internet connection or if the BT profiling has kicked in.

Hi, thanks for the reply. My ISP assures me there's no cap and no profiling. Very suspicious that my sync rate is exactly 4000kbps :?:

Try doing a speedtest at BT Wholesale and if it allows you then take the Further Diagnostics (just enter your phone number & confirm) to see your actual profile.

Did the test, nothing other than telling me the upload/download speeds then it would not let me do the further diagnostics, not available at this time.

Tried a different router, same exact 4000kbps rate.

That is an occasional problem unfortunately but I suggest you try again though. I suspect the the BT profile has lowered & is the cause of the problem, something that is often beyond human control.

I had a problem with a cap on my BT line, and BT assured me several times that there was no cap in place. BT finally agreed to perform an IP reset, but the line still synced at exactly the same number, without variation. I complained in writing to BT, stating that I was going to move to Sky, unless the cap was removed. Eventually I was contacted by one of their more senior technicians, and they confirmed that an "unusual" cap was in place, which their front line technical help people won't be able to see. The cap was removed, and another IP reset performed, and since then the sync speed changes, and I can use the SNR tweek to maximise the line speed

Oh, interesting, thanks for that! If I wasn't moving to FTTC at the end of next week I would be pursuing this but it's a bit of a waste of time for me now!
