7800DXL Wireless problems

Post by silverstonegeezer »

I've a problem similar to, but not quite the same as, others in the forum.

I have 2.4ghz enabled and 5ghz disabled. I also have a virtual access point enabled with client isolation enabled. I've software version 2.32b. Nothing else has been changed other than the SSID name and security settings.

First thing that happened was my wireless network ceased to be visible. Did all the normal stuff such as turning router and all devices off and on. Assumed it was something I had done, so factory reset the router and reconfigured it, then everything was fine for about 12 hours.

The next thing that happened was the 2.4ghz network LED went out, and the wireless network again became invisible. The configuration menu showed it as being enabled. Clicked on "Apply" and the LED came back on. Still no visibility of the wireless network though.

The wired LAN is still working fine, although I was getting streaming speeds that led to constant pauses on a small video window on BBC iplayer.

I'd expected better of this, relatively expensive router.

Amy ideas anybody ?

Thanks

Please upgrade your firmware to 2.32c this should resolve your wireless issues. Link below

Done

Bit of a bummer having to re-enter all config details again, but so far so good - both the secure and virtual networks are visible and working.

I do find myself wondering why so few people have had the same problem, and why V2.32b was so stable for some and not for others ?

If you hear no more from me on the issue, that means it's fine, so I would recommend the same action to anybody having flaky performance.

I'm sorry to say that updating the firmware didn't overcome this issue. Under normal circumstances the router will work fine, with wireless functionality as well, however if I restart the router, which I sometimes need to do, it loses all the wireless functionality. The LED for the wireless doesn't switch on, even though it's enabled in the settings. If I click on Apply from the configuration menu, the LED will turn on, however there's still no wireless availability. If I run a diagnostics check, the wireless networks show as Fail/Fail. The only way to get wireless working again is to do a hard reset, and then re-configure. So far I've had to do that 4 or 5 times.

So, if it's not the firmware, what is it ? The lack of anybody else talking about this problem would indicate it's a problem with my particular router, in which case it needs to be replaced.

I have 2.4g enabled, 5g disabled, and one guest virtual network. I've 3 devices with fixed IP addresses in the range 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.3.

All advice welcome - thanks.
