7800dxl with sky fibre

Post by david51blue »

Have just got sky fibre with their new modem \ router model number sr102. Wireless coverage is rubbish and i want to buy the 7800dxl and connect to my openreach modem. I have read the excellent thread here re connecting the 7800 and intend to follow it when i buy the 7800, but Im not sure how to extract my sky password and username from the sr102 as it seems to be a new model with no advice how to do this on the sky user forum.
any advice would be most appreciated

Well the only thing I can find is reference to Wireshark with the SR102 connected to your PC, downloadable from Download.com.

How you actually do it I've no idea.

tks tim, have managed to do this now. Use wireshark and the same process as for the sr101. there is a you tube video showing the detailed steps. :D

I've just received my new Sky SR102 hub. I'm assuming that if I want to continue using my 7800DXL I'm going to have to acquire a fibre modem from somewhere or is there a way to use the SR102 with the 7800DXL??

Thanks,
Kenny

Check the SR102 if it has a bridge/modem mode, if it does then you should be able to dial in on the 7800DXL using PPPOE

Another option is set the 7800 to ethernet mode, obtain a IP address automatically, then plug a ethernet connection from your SR102 to the EWAN port on the 7800 and once it obtains a internal IP from the SR102, put that IP address into DMZ on the SR102.

Or turn off the DHCP server on the 7800, plug a ethernet connection from the SR102 to any of the LAN ports, make sure the 7800 is set to ADSL mode, then the 7800 should work as a dumb wireless hub switch, all routing will be done by the SR102, meaning all IP address subnet and gateway should be assigned to devices connected to the 7800 from the SR102 (you might need to release/renew your IP address so your device can obtain a IP address from the SR102)

I hope this helps :D

I ended up doing the second option and using the 7800DXL as a dumb(ish) wireless hub for better wireless coverage.
