Using 7800DXL with BT Infinity HH5
Hi,
I've just got BT infinity (great! 37/9) with Home Hub 5 (Ok, but not a patch on 7800DXL) and I would like to used HH5 as modem only and DXL as Router.
Tried various things but doesn't work, can anyone help me with set-up?
Thanks
Mid

As the HomeHub 5 is a VDSL modem/router, I don't think you can turn the homehub into a modem only.midnightlightning wrote:Hi,

The only way to use the 7800DXL with the homehub5 is to plug a ethernet connection from the homehub to the EWAN port on the 7800DXL, then configure the 7800DXL to 'Ethernet' mode and set the 'Type' to IP over Ethernet with 'Obtain A IP address automatically' ticked.
Once setup your 7800DXL should get a internal WAN IP from the homehub 5, you then have to put this IP address (the one 7800DXL has acquired) into DMZ, this will be done on the homehub 5
I hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, do you know whether I could turn off DHCP on the HH5 and use the DXL for DHCP? If so would the DXL allocate an IP to the HH5 automatically?
I'm a complete novice at networking so this might not make sense but I was thinking if I turned DHCP and the Firewall off in the HH5 it would then just be functioning as a modem?
Cheers
Jon

Re: Using 7800DXL with BT Infinity HH5
You can turn off the DHCP and firewall on the HH5, but then you will have to set the IP/subnet/gateway manually to the 7800DXL WAN port, the IP should be in the same range as the HH5 eg 192.168.1.x, subnet - 255.255.255.0 and gateway - HH5 IP address. (so it will still use a internal IP address, the HH5 will still work as a modem/router, the only way to make the HH5 work as a modem is to change the 'Protocol/Type' to 'Bridging Mode' but the HH5 does not support this mode)midnightlightning wrote:Thanks for the reply, do you know whether I could turn off DHCP on the HH5 and use the DXL for DHCP? Either way the 7800DXL will do the routing with all devices connected to it (if you left the DHCP on, on the HH5 or if you disbale it with the setup up listed above), the 7800DXL will work as a broadband router, once set to 'ethernet' mode 'IP over Ethernet'

Re: Using 7800DXL with BT Infinity HH5
managed to fix the problem by changing the MTU to the same one as on the EE BrightBox2 router and moving the router to the DMZ (after fixing the ipaddress of the router in the DHCP settings)
But i now have another problem, The QoS settings for the different wireless networks i have grouped separately don't seem to function correctly..... i am running old firmware (yadda yadda "c" version) rather than the latest but from what i can gather the issues hasn't been fixed in the latest firmware

Can you confirm if the QOS is working on the guest wireless network?Garthark wrote:Looks like something got garbled so did a factory reset and updated to latest firmware, re-did settings and it's all behaving
