Re: Using 7800DXL with BT Infinity HH5
Hi,
I recently swithched to BT Infinity but have found the HH5 to be rubbish - constantly dropping connections to both ethernet and wirelessly connected devices. I want to replace the whole thing and thought that the 7800DXL/VDOX would do this, as they have an Infinity compatible/openreach modem installed. Is this the case or would I have to set this up using the HH5 as the modem and only use the 7800 as a router?

You will need to setup the HH5 as the modem (from my understanding the HH5 is unable to be configured to modem only mode) and 7800 as the router, the 7800DXL/DX/VDOX does not have a VDSL (Fibre) modem built in. (so you will have a two box solution)gordyk wrote:Hi,

Or wait for the 8800NL, which supports ADSl/VDSL as one box solution (should be released in May 2014)

Thanks, although that's disappointing. I take it doesn't matter that my fibre is FTTC and not into the house?

Thats right, as the 7800DXL does not have a built in VDSL modem, the only solution is a two box solution (eg open reach modem >> 7800DXL)gordyk wrote:Thanks, although that's disappointing. I take it doesn't matter that my fibre is FTTC and not into the house?

midnightlightning; you could also get yourself an Openreach modem, off e-bay, for around a tenner. this would just replace your HH5, and requires no configuration.
