BiPAC 7800DXL Capping Speed

Hi,

Hopefully somebody can help me before I rip all my hair out.
I have the 7800DXL and a download speed of between 3.5mbps and 4mbps. I'm on BT and can't stand the HH3 (hence why I got the 7800DXL).
The problem I'm having is every now and again the 7800DXL caps my speed (as if I QOS was doing it). I can have full download speeds for days and then all of a sudden I run a speed test and I'm lucky if I get 500kbps! It can then last for hours and then all of a sudden I'm back at around 3.5mbps as if nothing happened.
I first thought it might have something to do with my line so when it last happened I plugged my HH3 in and that give me a speed test of 3.5mbps so that made me rule out my line.
Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? It's random and when it happens it's very frustrating.

I do have QOS running but that's for guests (all my equipment have static IP's) and that only kicks in from Friday until Sunday.

I've also tested the SNR but this problem was happening before I touched the SNR (when it was set to - 1).

Any advice would be brilliant as I love the router and would hate to have to revert back to my HH3

Have you noticed if the SNR drops when the issue occurs (first check the SNR when you have a normal connection, and then again once the issue has occurred, also check for any errors)

I haven't noticed/checked to be fair but when it happens again I'll check straight away.
Where would the errors be highlighted? I can find errors in xDSL but what they mean I haven't the foggiest.

Super Frame Errors: the total number of super frame errors.
RS Words: Total number of Reed-Solomon code errors.
RS Correctable Errors: Total number of RS with correctable errors.
RS Uncorrectable Errors: Total number of RS words with uncorrectable errors.

You could run this program over say, 24hrs or longer and the graph will show when the SNRM drops which you can correlate to the speed drops http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files ... rstatslite

Just looking at your Stats - the 3.2 SNRM could be too low for your 52 Atten. as it won't be allowing much when you get a "natural" drop and perhaps setting that to 4 or 4.5 would be better.

I'm surprised BT's DLM isn't overriding the router setting as it normally does.

Do you still get the speed drops when wired or is it just on Wireless ?

Download inSSIDer to check for channel congestion as a change of channel could help when running Wireless http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html

When you notice the lag in your browsing, you could also run the program to see if there's any spikes in the graph or how stable the graph line is.

How long is it since you last rebooted the router or had a disconnect as having a lot of errors over a short period of time could point to a line problem, but the error count would increment over a period of time anyway - so on their own in the stats doesn't tell the full story.

I've found something really strange happening since yesterday. I had been out during the morning (the Internet was fine before I left) and when I got back at lunchtime the Internet was suffering from very low speeds (0.01mbps download tested on my Galaxy S5). I knocked the wireless off on my S5 and done a speed test on my Android TV Box, it shot up to 3.8mbps. For some reason (even now) if I reconnect my S5 to the network it kills the Internet.
I've tried looking for any kind of app that maybe data hungry or killing it but I've found nothing.
I'm starting to think my S5 doesn't like me surfing the Web at home

If it was a DHCP channel conflict then you wouldn't get any Internet.

Try changing the Channel Width in the router to just 20MHz to see if that makes any difference.

Sometimes a power cycle of the modem and/or modem/router combo can "clear the air".

This is done by switching off modem and/or router and all devices as well as disconnecting all cables for a couple of minutes.

Reconnect the cables, switch on the modem where separate to the router and wait for that to initialize then do the same for the router and then switch just one machine on - do a speed test and switch on or the wireless on the S5 and then check the speed.

Is the Android tv box switched on all of the time as well (sorry for my ignorance on that) as it could be a combination of devices when switched on together.

Does the proximity of the S5 to the router or your computer make any difference to the speed tests or the SNRM ?

RouterStatsLite if running may be a quicker way of checking the latter.
