Using Domain names in Virtual Servers/Exceptional Rule Group

Post by russelljulian »

I have a small PBX behind my 7800DXL and I am trying to only allow access by certain external devices.

This is no problem in that I setup a virtual server and then an Exceptional Group for the IP devices I want to provide access.

The problem is however is that one of the external devices is behind a home router with a dynamic IP address. We have setup a dyndns account on that router so that we can always resolve the IP address but I can see no way of setting rules in the 7800DXL using domain names it seems to only accept IP addresses.

Is there a way of using domain names or is there another way of achieving the same thing, or is this just beyond the capability of the 7800DXL.

Thanks

Julian

Don't think there is a way around this, as the home router is on a dynamic IP address, one option is to ask the ISP (home router ISP) for a static IP address, which will resolve the issue.

The firewall/exceptional group rules will only expect IP addresses
