7800DXL 2.4GHz wifi problems
I have just replaced my long serving 7800n with the DXL and I am experiencing some problems with the 2.4GHz wifi. The 7800n filled my house with signal, no dead spots at all but I am having real problems getting both my mac book air and iPhone to connect with the 7800DXL unless I am standing right next to it. I have set up guest access point (am I right in thinking security can't be enabled on these?) and the connection works like a dream all through my house and even right to the far end of my garden which is over 40m from the DXL. But using WPA2-PSK I can't get a connection upstairs on the first floor. I have tried using just the 20Mhz bandwidth, firmware was up to date out of the box 2.32d and I've tried all the wireless channels plus I'm in a rural location with no neighbours to cause me interference. I'm baffled. The 5GHz works well on the ground floor not so well on the first floor hence the desire to get the 2.4 working.

Yes you can enable wireless security on the guest network, once you click on 'security' click on the drop down list for 'Select SSID' and select you guest network and setup security.ratchet25 wrote:I have just replaced my long serving 7800n with the DXL and I am experiencing some problems with the 2.4GHz wifi. So are you saying that when using WPA2/PSK you have issue at range, but when using no security you have no issues, is that correct? maybe you can try setting up security on the guest network and see what results you get?

Ok, security set up on guest network using WPA2-PSK and everything works fine all around my house. Switch back to the main SSID and it won't work unless I'm right next to the router.

That is strange, never seen that before, not sure what I can advise as the settings are the same for the main SSID and for the guest SSID (they share the same settings >> advanced page)ratchet25 wrote:Ok, security set up on guest network using WPA2-PSK and everything works fine all around my house. I guess you could hide the main SSID and use the guest SSID as your new main ssid

Are the wireless speeds the same on the guest network?

Thanks, I'm going to reset it to factory defaults and start all over. I'll post back tomorrow.

Spent a couple of days playing with the DXL over the weekend but could not get it working upstairs on the main SSID so I've sent it back for a refund. Back with my 7800n now everything works perfectly again.
