Strangely enough yesterday i tried the game app again on the Tablet before attempting to change any router settings and as fast as lightning straight online no issues at all - played a dozen or so games yesterday with near perfect results in connection.
Makes me wonder if the game developer has been looking on the web for advice and found this forum thread title because they have certainly done something with there server

If it isn't broken then i wont try and fix it - hopefully the connection will stay solid.

I was able to still browse the internet on the tablet even though no game server connection though i haven't tried using the tablet and this particular game on another wireless connection.
That said the game can be played on mobile phones with internet and using i phone i was unable to connect to the game both wireless and 3G - since yesterday i can now play using the phone too on both Wifi / 3G

Regards,
TL
Then it does seem like the game server had issues, if you can't play over 3G and wireless (meaning two different connections) then problem most likely lies with the game servers, probably clogged up with many users attempting to connect the servers
Agreed billion_fan - the inability to connect using 3G as you say is the big giveaway - i hadn't thought of that.
Still, the tips already mentioned here in this thread may be useful for other users ;)

To improve wireless gaming connectivity it's better to uses the power cables to connect devices, wired or wireless. For devices like non mobile devices that need a good connection but are too far away from the router this is usually what I recommend, it's easy and it's cheap.
