You might be interested in my latest comment on this problem, with regard to both the 7800DXL and the 8800NL. Go and look at the similar topic in the 8800 series forum.
I'm speculating that the noise heard is related to a switching frequency of the brick-type power supply, and that some breakthrough of that frequency has occurred into the router itself, via the DC lead.
We'll have to wait and see what Billion Technical make of it. My guess is that any immediate replacement unit you receive will exhibit the same issue (unless it happens to use a different and perhaps better-quality power brick).
