Hi,
Was looking for some pointers if anyone can spare some time. I recently bought a 8900 as my main router and wish to connect (via cable) my old 8800AXL to provide better wifi at other end of house but something just doesnt seem to work. My set up is as follows:-

Primary 8900AX-2400 (latest firmware)
Straight out the box and connected to fibre. Standard setting of 192.168.1.254, range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199. DHCP Enabled
Cable leaving Port 1

Secondary 8800AXL (latest firmware)
Set this to fixed IP of 192.168.1.199. DHCP disabled.
Cable into Port 1

I can browse to each routers web interface so it appears to be working. If I try to connect to the 8800AXL wifi, the device attempts to then fails. The SSID's are different on each router so I can see what is going on.

I've tried following various guides on the net but none some to work. Most say to set the secondary routers address outside the range that DHCP handles so set it to 192.168.1.200 but nothing. Must be something simple i'm sure but I cant quite get it!!

Also tried the good old off/on trick but still nothing.

I just tested the same setup and everything worked fine as expected.

8900-2400 = 192.168.1.254, DHCP range 192.168.1.100~192.168.1.199

8800AXL =- 192.168.1.199, DHCP off

Wired connection from port 3 on the 2400 to port 1 on the 8800AXL

Different SSID used on the 8800AXL for both bands.

Connected a laptop to the 8800AXL 2.4ghz band, and obtained a IP address from the 2400, with the gateway also being the 2400 address

Browsed the net all fine.

Maybe worth resetting the 8800AXL then follow the step below

1. Login
2. Change the LAN address to 192.168.1.199
3. Login again on 192.168.1.199
4. Change the SSID and security passwords for both bands (try using a SSID never used before)
5. Disable the DHCP server
6. Plug a Ethernet connection from the 2400 to any of the normal LAN ports on the 8800AXL
7. Restart any devices connected to the 8800AXL and reconnect to the 8800AXL
8. Check to see if you can connect, and what your IP address, gateway address is (it should point back to the 2400)
9. If you have issues, try with a wired connection to the 8800AXL, to see what IP address etc you get.

Thanks for the info and it all appears to be working now. No idea why as I'd tried a dozen resets, config combinations etc etc!!

Anyway, thanks for the assistance.

Next part of the project is to try connecting a Billion 7800N via wireless to the new 8900AX. Wish me luck!
