Remote Access Time's Out (Additional: ExpressVPN Setup)

Post by RandomGeeza »

As per the title, if I try to gain access to the router remotely, it times out and does not respond.

I have the router setup to accept connections, with a specified port. However, it continues to be unresponsive.

The only time it works is after a reboot of the box. Indicating that my settings are correct, but somewhere in there it is timing out, blocking further attempts.

Is this a feature, known issue and is there a fix or work around?

Which model and firmware are you using??

Did you enable the remote access feature under 'Advanced Setup >> Management >> Remote Access' I also assume you changed the HTTP port under 'Advanced Setup >> Management >> HTTP Port'

Also when the issue occurs, can you gain access to the web gui from a internal connection?

Hi,

Router 8900AX R2, latest Firmware 2.50a.d13.

Yes, Remote Access is enable and I have specified a port.

It works fine after a fresh reboot, using my internal and external static IPs, but eventually stops working on the external IP, I have not timed this issue yet, but suspect approx 24 hours. It happens on two different machines without any other tweaks other than a reboot of the box. Thereafter it responds as it should. When it hangs I can still gain access from my internal IP address.

I hope that helps....

Ok, what port have your changed the HTTP port too??

You mentioned " It happens on two different machines without any other tweaks other than a reboot of the box." do you mean you have port forwarding setup for these two different machines, and the port forwarding rules stops??

Have you setup port re-direct?? (eg external port different to the internal port??) with these two machines??

I need a much information as possible so I can try and replicate the issue here, and then report it to our engineers.

Can you try testing a new firmware I just received and let me know if you still have issues.

I'm not entirely sure what your questions are asking in the second to last post.

To explain it again... I have remote access enabled, and I have specified a port to gain access both using the internal IP address and my external IP address.

For example, and these are random IP/Port numbers and not actual settings:

Specified port is 1234. Internal IP address is 192.168.1.254. I type in 192.168.1.254:1234 and everything works fine.

Specified port is 1234. External IP address, to connect remotely is 87.345.65.234. I type in 87.345.65.234:1234, it connects at first but if I try after an unspecified time, it does not connect. However, if I reboot the until it will connect without issues, but will eventually stop working again.

I hope that explains it better. And if I am doing something wrong please correct me.

Cheers, will test the firmware you have provided and report back.

Hi, to add to the confusion. The firmware image you gave me does not install. Nor does trying the most recent stable image, D13.

It just sits on the firmware page, unresponsive. Reporting that it is installing but does nothing. I tried with current settings and factory settings, same results.

Screen shots attached.

That's strange I upgraded my test unit with the same firmware without any issues.

Try using a different web browser or PC

Already did, Safari and Chrome, over two different MBPs. Same results?
