SNR change - why no effect?

My line loss is 59.5 dB and the SNR settles at about 8
I changed it to 6 but the speed did not change at all. SNR 4 makes it unstable.
I use First Utility on TalkTalk - have they found a way to stop users playing with SNR?

The SNR tweak does not work on a VDSL connection.
Try setting the SNR to 5 and see if the SNR drops to 7db. (6 is the same as default -1)

Thanks.
I changed SNR to 5 and now see a reported SNR of between 4 and 5 and a small increase in speed.
(I now get 1.5 to 1.7 rather than 1.3 to 1.4 on
www.broadband.co.uk - the Billion says 1.8 but I never see that on test sites)
I bought the Billion in the hope of over 2 (blazing speed for these parts)
It says the mode is ADSL_G.dmt - I have much to learn before trying any other changes.
