Attainable Rate?

Post by BadMelonFarmer »

Hi,

In the stats page of the web console there is a value of say 5788 for the "Attainable Rate".... Yet the "Rate" is 5184

I know these can vary with the dynamic nature of ADSL.

Just wondering what "Attainable Rate" is and why the actual rate is always lower.

The Manual says the "attainable rate" is the rate that can be achieved.... But in practice I have always seen the actual rate as lower.

(ISP is IDnet on ADSL Max)

Thanks

Hi

The attainable rate is an upper ceiling. When you first sync and connect you connect at the attainable rate at that particular moment. The attainable rate figure shown is dynamic and often changes, sometimes the attainable rate may be shown less than your current speed if line conditions have become worse. Usually though the attainable rate is shown higher than the actual sync rate as it is based on the most favourable circumstances, as long as there isn't a big difference between attainable and actual all is good.

Thanks for the info.

Do you sync a the attainable rate at first? I never do... The actual sync is always lower than the attainable rate for me.
