Possible memory leak after 28 plus days 7800DX

Hi

For the second time I've found the internet to suddenly become painfully slow, this is on wired connections, both times the slow down has been at around 28 days. Browsing to the routers admin page is equally as slow, showing it isn't an actual ISP issue. The logs show nothing unusual.

This is happening on firmware version 2.32b and it happened on the 2.31.

Rebooting the Billion full functionality is restored.

Seems like there is some memory leak somewhere. Disappointing considering the 7800N kept going for months and months.

Hopefully the developers are aware of these issues.

Regards

Phil

Hey Phil,

You are not alone on the thinking here. I notice that over time the router becomes less responsive and indeed, since owning I have had to reboot a couple of times when the internet facing connection became very very slow!

A reboot does solve it but I don't really want to have to schedule regular reboots, it is not best practice.

I hope the devs can respond accordingly.

Regards

Mark

Hi,

I'm also seeing the same issues - but seems to be around 5 days for me.

Clearly there is something wrong as a reboot always fixes the slowdown.

The latest firmware is still giving me intermittent problems with wireless on my HP printer and AppleTV. Again, a reboot fixes all.

Ps - I was wondering if there was any downside to scheduling reboots from my BT line profile perspective?

Not ideal, but all my other gear reconnects OK, so thinking that it's going to be the only solution for quite some time until we get new firmware. And who knows when that will be?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

So the problem discussing here is router slowing down after being up for certain days?

I think I will check with engineers to see what are the ways to check the memory.

Johnathan - if the issue is happening with your router every 5 days then I am guessing you might be using the router much more heavily then the others. Can you give some description on whether your usage is heavy e.g. lots of torrents and clients...etc?

Just want to compare how yours is compare to like Phil who is reporting the issue every 28 days.

Hi,

My usage is constant, but I'm not sure how heavy it is.

I work from home, but main apps used daily:

Skype
FaceTime
Webex (1 or 2 times a day, probably 30 mins per session)
Web browsing/Email
iTunes video and music streaming (mainly from iCloud) - mainly TVs and movies

No torrents or serving files from my home system, however.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Starting to wonder if:

a) latest firmware is busted
or
b) have a faulty router

I'm starting to get really frustrated with the need for constant reboots to get my router to work as advertised.

I have to say that my 7800N was great, but I'm starting to get distressed at the lack of consistency with this router. It was all good before the latest firmware update.

I will revert to last firmware to see if that improves issues. Is there any news on a new firmware version?

I've scheduled my 7800dxl to reboot every Sunday morning to keep it going. Hope this will not effect my fttc speeds!

If there is any info or diagnostics the board admins would like me to run, please let me know.

Nothing?

Is there a new f/w version in progress? I like the fact that my 7800dxl is playing nicely with BT TV Multicast but not so impressed with the slowdown issue. In addition I'm not really sure that the Wi-Fi is any better than my BT supplied £35 HH4
