Port Trunking with a Qnap T412

Post by CuttlefishJones »

Hi,

I have just installed a 7800DXL which replaces a very reliable 7800N in which the ADSL got toasted recently. I run a couple of NAS's on the network one of which, the QNAP, is running as a local DNS server, DNLA, and storage. With the 7800N I had the two ethernet ports bonded together under one IP with the MAC cloned from the first port. The ports are trunked using ALB to provide a seamless DNS server and DNLA server.

When I was using the 7800N both ethernet cables were connected and the router leds were lit up and the QNAP showed up under one IP. But with the 7800DXL if I connect both ethernet cables only one shows as connected with the second flickering into life and then staying resolutely off. Though there seems to be some traffic over the port. The biggest issue though is that with both connected the QNAP is not accessible via the network.

Is there something I need to do with the 7800DXL to tell it that the two ports are trunked? I assume it is having an issue with two ethernet ports sharing the same IP and MAC address? Any help would be appreciated!!

Ignore the previous post. The 7800DXL should handling ALB just as well as the 7800N. I've managed to track the fault to a fried ethernet port on the QNAP. Must have gone at the same time as the 7800N, and the Powerline adapters.
