7800DXL in bridge mode with Technicolor TG589vn v3

Post by Feliks »

Hi everyone,

I'm having no luck setting up my new 7800DXL in bridge mode with my fibre router Technicolor TG589vn v3. I followed the installation and setup guide for fibre to a teeth and tried every option that would come to head with the same result.
I must be doing something wrong so does anyone here have a similar setup at home or came around a similar problem with my configuration?

Many thanks for all help.

A bit more details of what I tried so far:

My internet provider is UTV Internet via Eircom fibre lines and I'm in Ireland. I configure my Technicolor TG589vn v3 provided by UTV in bridged setup. I choose EFM VDSL interface (FTTC - the only option available in this setup) and I switch the Local DHCP server to disabled. That's pretty much it as far as TG589vn is concerned, there's no other options available for this setup and there's no dedicated EWAN RED port as on some other models. Since there's no dedicated EWAN port like the one on my BiPAC 7800DXL i use port nr4 and connect it to port nr4 (EWAN) on my BiPAC. Before I make the connection between them two I hook up my laptop to BiPAC and complete the setup otherwise when I try to connect to it via 192.168.1.254 in goes straight to my TG589vn configuration page. So I turn it on, starting with factory settings (I upgraded firmware to 2.32c). I set the password, move to configure main port to ethernet, then input my UTV username and password and hit next. At that stage I connect to the other router and wait for the device to configure. At the end of it all I get the red FAIL!!! without any further info on why it has failed.

I tried every other possible options selecting different main ports and it only connects successfully when I choose bridged but there's no internet access still. Any ideas?

What modem/router did UTV provide you with?? I thought UTV use TR-69??

Another test you can try is to plug your PC to the TG589vn and try and dial in with a PPPOE connection (windows dial in) and see if your PC is able to connect with username and password

It's the Technicolor TG589vn v3: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/Sh ... ctID=16234

Can you provide a bit more detailed instruction on how to perform that test as I never did that before. I'm on win7.

No luck. I put it in bridge mode and follow the guide. I get the error 651 in both configurations with dhcp on and off. :(

If your PC cannot dial in with a PPPOE connection, then I don't think the Billion device will be able to either.

I can only assume it might be a authentication issue, have you double checked your broadband username and password with UTV??

Yes, login details are fine. It seems it's that bloody vdsl that came preconfigured and for some reason is acting the maggot. You can't telnet it, it won't provide any details about the problem and UTV support won't even flick a finger to help because it is working in routed mode. I thought my BiPAC 7800 was what I needed to take my connection to another level and now it turns out I need to fork out more for a proper vdsl.
