Firewall and an FTP server

Hi,

I'm using a 7800DXL running 2.32d

I have a NAS drive running an ftp server. I can access this internally.

How do I allow access from outside?
I've tried adding a vitual server using the dropdown for FTP and this didn't work. (there seems to be more options on this screen than show in the manual)
I set the NAS ip as the DMZ Host and this worked OK, however I don't want to expose the NAS quite so much, I just want to allow ftp.

Can anyone help me.

Under configuration, security, ip filtering incoming, add a rule for ftp Just select FTP from the drop down box for filter name, assuming you have the nat port forward working okay,Leave all the defaults. it should work fine...

Forwarding port 21 (TCP) to port 21 on your NAS should be all that's necessary and that what the drop down does for you.

Two potential 'gotchas' - 1) Is the correct WAN interface selected in the top drop down and 2) Did you hit Apply at the bottom of the page?

Hope this helps?

[Edit] I don't think the Incoming Filtering setting in the post above is required. I have the web GUI of my NAS accessible from the outside by only setting up a NAT 'Virtual Server' rule.

That's it !

I had the wrong interface in the dropdown, such a simple mistake, I'm almost embarrased to admit it

Many Thanks
