HI All,

My first posting. I hope that I can mention bit torrents here in this forum.. If not please say so and I'll be happy if someone lets me know and removes my post and I'll post a question about port forwarding in general. Other than that here's the following....

After years of service I needed to replace my modem, choosing a Billion 7800VDPX.. Unfortunately Its blocking any port that I use for Utorrent.

I can download mostly but poor uploading due to the blocking of my port.

Ive checked with canyouseeme and it indicated that my connection timed out..

Now I also used Port Forward checker by Portforward.com and it shows me that the port is open.. So Im not sure whats happening there...

I also used their Router Detector which shows that my PC, Router and Online IP Addresses are correct.. But does show another router in the chain.. Which I know nothing about.. Is this indicating some sort of firewall?? I do have some switch boxes at home but none between this PC and the net..

Now onto the modem, unfortunately, im a novice to my latest router and I'm still struggling with the Web interface...

Now on the security log, there's nothing recent that I can see. I'm not sure how to turn on or off monitoring of the firewall. The Manual is all foreign to me...

My port forward is for both tcp & udp on one setup. Should I try and have individual forwards for each instead???

Im using the latest firmware.

Also Im noticing that there are ports being opened by something called Teredo and there seems to be a lot of them. about 16 or so...Can someone please explain what that is???

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Who did you purchase the 7800VDPX from?, it is not a known model to us within the UK (so its hard comment as we have limited info on this model)

Check the ports you have opened with sheidsup, that should confirm if the ports are opened,

Also you should use the virtual server option to open any ports

Does your bittorrent client support UPNP, this should open the ports for you (you can check this within the virtual server section)

The link below should explain Teredo

Hi And thanks for your reply.

I'm actually from down under in the antipodes. I tried joining the local Billion forum site but for some reason it's down and I get a error message when I try it. Ive sent them a email.

The model is a local one

http://au.billion.com/products/voip/bipac7800vdpx.html

Ive tried shields up and like the one from Portforward, it shows it blocked..

I also used portforward's Router Detector which shows that my PC, Router and Online IP Addresses are correct.. But does show another router in the chain.. Which I know nothing about.. Is this indicating some sort of firewall, maybe from the Billion??? I don't have a second router....

Ive used the virtual server to open the port numerous times with different port no. with no result...

On another site I was told this...

"My guess is the built-in Billion firewall. By default it blocks all incoming traffic on the WAN side. You'll need to configure specific rules to enable your utorrent traffic to get through. I used to use a Billion & had specific incoming rules for VOIP & torrent traffic."

So does the Billion have a basic firewall??? Thats why in my limited knowledge was why you need to portforward...

Ive ticked the box in the bit torrent program to Enable UpnP port mapping to no avail.. So have un ticked it...

I did create a fix IP address for my PC as I was told that this was the right thing to do..

Any other thoughts If your still able to help me??

Thanks

On WAN page there should be a firewall tick box, try and untick this box, apply the settings and give your torrent client a quick test, once tested re-enable this feature. (this test should prove if the firewall is blocking you)

I remember someone else who had port forwarding issues on another non UK model, they ended up downgrading the firmware to 2.32c and everything started working again (might be worth a try) :D

Hi, Billion Fan. Thanks for that.

On my WAN page I found this... A copy and past.. not all the columns line up..

WAN Service

ATM Interface
Interface Description Type VPI / VCI Vlan8021p VlanMuxId Igmp NAT Firewall IPv6 Mld Remove Edit
atm1.1 ipoe_0_8_36 IPoE 8 / 36 N/A N/A Disabled Enabled Enabled Disabled Disabled
atm2.1 ipoe_0_9_89 IPoE 9 / 89 N/A N/A Disabled Enabled Enabled Disabled Disabled
ppp0.1 pppoe_0_8_35 PPPoE 8 / 35 N/A N/A Disabled Enabled Enabled Enabled Disabled
3G/LTE Interface
Interface Description TEL No. APN Username NAT Firewall Failover Edit
USB3G0 *99***1# internet Enabled Enabled Enabled

I had to go into 4 separate pages to tick boxes to disable the firewall individually as there was not one main box to tick... I was treading carefully as this is a bit over the top for me..

But It didn't seem to help....

I might try the downgrade the firmware as a last resort as Ive read on another site that that this has happen to some.. But others report no problems.. strange...
I'll also need to know if its a straight forward retro flash of the firmware as I think mine came with the latest but can't remember...

Thanks

The firmware downgrade should be fine, regarding your WAN profile, you should only need one profile setup within the UK, (two if you include the 3G profile that cannot be deleted)
