VPN Access Samsung TV

Hello there,

I have recently purchased a 1 year subscription to Private Internet access. I have emailed them with this question, but not had a reply as yet. I have installed the software onto my Windows PC and my Android tablet and it appears to be working, as I now appear to have a UK IP address, although I am located in Australia

I also have a Samsung smart TV (Series 6 40H6400) that has Samsungs own native ITV/4oD/BBC iplayer apps installed. The TV is connected via Ethernet to my Billion 7800VDOX router, but is unable to access these services via the native apps, as it is Geo-Blocked. UK TV is far superior to Au TV :D

The TV has no VPN setup options

My router has complex VPN setup options, but I am not sure how this needs to be setup.

Ideally, I would like all my wired and wireless devices connected thru this router to be able to access the UK Geo-Blocked services.

Would any forum member be able to point me to an article about how to set up the VPN for this router?

Thanks for any assistance,

Chris Morgan

OK, thanks for the link Billion Fan. I'll try it today and report back

Edited to add, I got a copy and paste of the help file, which needless to say dosn't answer my question or help in any way whatsoever, so I emailed them back and told them so. I have 5 days to cancel the subscription, so have a few days to try it out

Well not having much luck with this guide. I am using windows 8 box. Some questions:

I assume that where it says enter your WAN IP address this is just ***.**.***.** not ppp0.1 (DSL) / ***.**.***.** as outlined in the diagram?
When I double click the VPN connection I created and log in with Test and test, I get Error 734, The PPP link control protocol was terminated
On checking Status >> VPN >> PPTP it shows as not connected

Think I'm missing something here :?

Thanks Chris

Sorry I think I sent you the wrong guide, the guide I sent you is if you want to dial into your DX from a remote location, but you want to route traffic to UK provider so the setup is different.

You need to setup your device as PPTP client as shown on the attached screen shots

Please note that once setup and working, all traffic from connected devices (devices connected to the router) will routed through the VPN connection

OK, thanks Billion Fan. I have already cancelled the PIA service as they were not helpful at all. However armed with this new information, can you suggest a VPN/geoblocking service as an alternative? preferably one that has a TRIAL period, so if I cant get it working theres no charge. PIA dont have a trial period, so I'm not prepared to spend with them again.

Thanks Chris

There are some free ones you can use, I don't really use a UK VPN provider as I am within the UK (PPTP VPN)

http://www.vpnbook.com/
http://www.bestukvpn.com/

With these free providers the password will change daily/weekly

Thanks so much, Billion fan for your help. I will have a look at those links and canvas a few aussie forums to see what popular VPNs they are using. Hopefully the TV will be sorted soon.

Cheers Chris
