7800dxl and 7800n as bridge

Post by smatharu »

Hi all,

I've been desperately trying to set up my 7800n as a repeater for the 7800dxl. I just can't get them to talk to each other.

On 7800dxl: I've enabled bridge mode and set it to scan for the MAC address of the 7800n and authorised it's usage via the checkbox.

On 7800n: Different IP address to 7800dxl (192.168.1.253), turned off DHCP server, put into Pure Bridge mode, added the MAC address of the 7800dxl. Have also matched the password and wireless channel settings and on the 7800dxl it's WPA2-PSK +TKIP/AES and on the 7800n I can only see the option for WPA2-PSK + AES but that should work as TKIP is just a fallback, correct?

Any advice on how to get these two to talk to each other is very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Both devices need to be set to use WEP security and matching passwords as both models have different wireless chipsets (known issue when using different chipsets in WDS mode see below)

WDS may be incompatible between different products (even occasionally from the same vendor) since the IEEE 802.11-1999 standard does not define how to construct any such implementations or how stations interact to arrange for exchanging frames of this format. The IEEE 802.11-1999 standard merely defines the 4-address frame format that makes it possible

Ah I see. WEP isn't an option for me so will have to try another device. The 3100N will work fine right?

Should work fine in AP client mode, not in WDS mode
