WiFi

Hi,
I am using a Billion 7800DXL. Recently 2 iphones and a laptop struggle to connect to the wifi network. They sometimes will if they are in the same room as the router but disconnect as soon as one walks a few paces away. Most times they will say 'cannot join network' - iphones. Not sure where the problem lies or how to resolve it. I have an ipad which can connect to the WiFi without issue on most occasions. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Have you tried downloading InSSIDer onto the laptop? This will allow you to see all the wireless networks in your vicinity. You will also be able to check on the signal strength of your own wifi network and see if neighbouring networks are causing interference that could be stopping your devices from connecting.

HI Thanks for your reply. I haven't used InSSider but have use Xirrus WiFi Inspector which does a similar function. There are no other networks on the channel I am using.

Have you tried to change the 'Bandwidth' to '20mhz'??

You can find under 'Configuration >> Wireless 2.4G (wl0) >> Advanced >> Bandwidth'

Thanks, I have changes this - it was set on 40mhz. Should this improve things? I'll need to wait until the people with the iphones come home to see if it has worked. What about the 5g - should this also be changed?
Thanks

That seems to have worked. What exactly does changing this do? What is the difference between 20 & 40 mhz?

Setting the channel width to 40 MHz network will allow you to use 2/3 of the entire Wi-Fi band. Thus having a higher chance of overlapping and interfering with other wireless networks. Meanwhile, if you set the channel width to 20 MHz, the network will only overlap with the two channels before and after that frequency.

40MHz will give you a connection speed of 300mbps
20mhz will give you a connection speed of 150mbps
