How to enable WPS button without enabling PIN

I want to install a Powerline WiFi adapter as a clone. The Devolo one I'm interested in seems to only be configurable for this by WPS. Is it possible to enable the WPS button whilst still having PIN access disabled? Would clicking the WPS enable config button and leaving the other (PIN) entries blank be equivalent? Presumably I could just disable WPS after configuring the adapter as I wouldn't need it otherwise but I'd be interested in the answer anyway. BiPAC 7800DXL.

Hi Phreder, if it's a powerline adaptor, it will act as though it's a wireless access point, and will have its own wireless configuration, completely independent of the 7800. If, however, it's a wifi extender, then you will need to configure access to the 7800. I don't usually bother with WPS, you should just be able to connect a Ethernet cable to it, and configure it through its own web interface.

Thanks for your response Evansnp
It is a powerline adapter and can have its own Wifi config but can also clone the router's configuration so it acts as an extender. Unlike the usual kind of extender trying to amplify an already weak signal, it's sourcing from the powerline network. As an AP the adapter can be configured from its web interface but looks as if it can only be set up as a clone via WPS.
My query relates to the router rather than the adapter though.

Yes you can enable WPS, set it to 'Enter STA PIN ' and leave all sections as default and press 'Apply' then press and hold the WPS button the back of the router for around 3-4 seconds, once the WPS light starts to blink, you can run through the WPS setup on your Devolo device.

Thanks billion_fan. I'll make my purchase. Just for my education, is leaving the sections as default equivalent to disabling PIN access?

Yes leaving the PIN section blank should be the same as disabling pin access or enabling push button WPS mode, (tested with a HP printer here, some customers have not had success using WPS with a Sky box etc, so if it does fail you might need to setup the AP settings manually, just match the SSID, security password and security type and you should be fine)
I prefer to setup up devices manually, as when using WPS you could be prone to a brute force attack.

Thank you. I too prefer the manual approach. Just doing some research in case I can't as I haven't yet bought the Devolo to find out for sure. I'll make sure it's active for as short a time as possible.
Thanks again
