The impression I've had from Googling around is that the 7800N appears to support NAT Loopback... Currently though, I can't find out how to actually enable it... or find out if it's even enabled by default.

Anyone any ideas?

I'm running 1.06f.dc1 on my router.

NAT loopback is not currently supported by the Bipac 7800N.

We have custom firmware for this, but please note, future firmware will not support NAT loopback.

I have attached the custom firmware, as usual reset back to factory default settings after the firmware upgrade and do not restore settings from previous firmware builds.

As Billion will not be implementing NAT loopback in future firmware for the Bipac 7800N, you will have to stay on this firmware.

How do I enable NAT Loopback now though?

I'm still unable to find a setting for this, and it obviously needs one as I can't just access it from the internal network correctly.

Any ideas?

The only information about this firmware I got from our engineers was that it supports NAT loopback, as far as I'm aware there isn't a option within the web interface to enable NAT Loop back, it should be on as default.

Hmm, OK... I've found it does *seem* to work in certain circumstances, but not others...

It seems to work if you set up NAT rules through Port Mapping, but not if you use One-to-One NAT which is a bit of a pain, as that's how my setup works.

I guess I'm just going to have to live with that.

Could I ask "why" NAT loopback isn't enabled?
It seems Netgear have a habit of this also, but then the likes of Draytek have it no problem.

To me, the likes of the 7800n is full many advanced features which are surely aimed more at folks with more than a passing interest in "just surfin", i.e. those with web/email servers perhaps. And anyone hosting their own web/email server (such as myself) would require NAT loopback enabled.

Luckily, I have 2off DSL lines and don't experience the NAT loopback problem due to the way I have my gateway setup, i.e. any internal requests to a domain hosted inside my network actually goes out on one DSL line and straight back in the other! Not ideal but beats the hell out of farfing about with hosts files.

But like I said I'm still trying to fathom "why" Billion & Netgear etc don't enable it out the box...............

I'd also like to add my request for nat loopback - I bought the billion 7800n to replace a Cisco 887 router (which happily does loopback without an issue), I really want to use the nat loopback as well (I haven't yet tried to use the firmware listed), and I don't understand why this isn't available as an advanced option - in my case I have a mail server, dns server and web server that I want to make available externally - nat loopback would certainly solve the issues here.

Bit of a kick in the nuts you spend all this money on a decent modem to find out it does not support a feature you will need for cctv etc. An expensive paperweight in the making.

You can use the firmware above that supports NAT loop back.
