DLNA server issues

HI
first forage into DLNA so apologies if this is a little "newbie"...
I have a 8800 with Seagate Expansion disk 2TB portable drive attached( one 2TB partition formatted NTFS ). I have enabled the DLNA server and can occasionally see some but not all files. I've tried in Windows Media player on windows 8( complains about unable to stream ), over PS3 ( I got protocol error 2101 on this ) and from Linux Mint 17( VLC shows a media server but I can't access any of the files).
It seems to work for a short while then disappears altogether.
I'm on firmware 2.32d.dm2
I can see the following entries in the logs
Oct 20 11:39:30 daemon warn kernel: bcmmserver/30532: potentially unexpected fatal signal 11.
and it apppears to be similar to this post viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2449&start=10
Can anyone help/advise? I'm trying to centralise all our family media so it can be accesed from any device in the house and thsi is rather fatal arrow in my plan
