Adding Satellite broadband to ADSL

We live on the Isle of Arran where Internet access is still very hit and miss. If it is not windy, we can get up to the dizzying heights of 1.2mb, if it is, broadband is cancelled effectively. To mitigate this, I have installed a 20mb Satellite connection from Tooway and it works really well but is metred so we only use it in emergency. I would love there to be some way of having it permanently wired into the house network and just switch it in as needed.

We have a 7800DXL providing DHCP and all ethernet connected devices go through a 24 port gigabit switch to it.

I also have a much loved Bipac 7800N, our standby router which can also be used to connect the Tooway router.

I have searched the forum and found a thread where someone in wales did something very similar but it is really sketchy on detail for a networking noob like me.

Is there a FAQ that explains how to configure the various devices?

SOLVED By me :D :D :D

Followed the thread I'd found on this forum and just battered away at it until it worked.

For anyone else wanting to do this with a TOOWAY Satellite modem....

Set the 7800N to an IP below the DHCP range of your ADSL router but in the same third octet (so my 7800DXL ADSL router is 192.168.1.254....I set the 7800N as 192.168.1.5 as the 7800DXL range is 192.168.1.100 > 253)
Set the 7800N to EWAN mode and plugged the TOOWAY router into the EWAN port.
Left DHCP ON in the 7800N router as the Satellite router only provides IP for the first connected device.
Rebooted both devices and plugged into my 24 port switch.
Set my PCs to have 2 default gateways, the first is the 7800DXL ADSL router with a metric of 2 and the second the 7800N with a metric of 4
I switch between them as needed by changing the metric (lower number = highest priority).

No Idea if this is the right way of doing it but my God it works!

Many thanks to Nick-in-Montgomery for the inspiration in this viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2189&p=6856&hilit=satellite#p6856 thread.
